Elegance Forward Lighting

Featured Replies

I see that the Elegance gets the "smart" front foglights, which light up when you turn a corner. As it has Xenons, are these also adaptive in any way ?

The headlamps are supposedly adaptive, at least as far as I am aware.

I have these as an option on my SE with the standard halogens. They don't turn like the xenon's, and only light up between 0 - 40km/h. There operation is controlled by the steering angle and/or indicator position.

For example sat at junction with left indicator on then left fog will be on (but not right). Would be the same if turning left without indicator and no more than 40km/h.

Edit

Forgot to say that having been at first unsure as to there worth, I am becoming more of a convert as I get used to them. Now noticing there missing if I drive the Corsa.

Am I correct in thinking the xenon headlights are cornering lights but not the full adaptive "AFS" ones as available on the Superb and Octavia?

The cornering lights are used to illuminate the curves by means of the cone of lightswiveling together with the front headlight with Xenon lights*. This function is activewhen the speed of the car increases to more than 10km/h.From the manual page 51.The translation to English from the original Czech is a little klutzy

If you shine your lights in a shop window and turn the steering from lock to lock, you will see one or the other the lights switching on and off,

Yes, the main Xenon units do steer at all speeds, you will see them do a self-test at start-up. The effect is quite subtle at first but on a winding road, you just become aware that the lights are pointing exactly where you want them. This is in addition to the low-speed foglamps already mentioned. That, and the fact that you can set them for LHD via the trip computer, makes them a very worthwhile feature if you regularly drive on unlit roads - I wish my XF's (Czech-made) Xenons were as good.

Thanks for the clarification. As some of my commute is on unlit twisties - looking forward to the help !

Read about the LHD adjustment - cracking feature ! Pity the car is too small to take us and gear and bikes on Holiday. We fill an S-max, so the Yeti has no chance !
