When to do first service for the FL Octavia 1.8tsi?

Featured Replies

hi guys, i have done around 2k kms in my new FL octavia 1.8tsi, i am from India over here skoda says the first service is at 15k kms or 1year after purchase. I find the interval abit too long, is this normal? This is my first time i owned a skoda so dont know much about them, i know jap/korean cars need first service by 2kms, when do your'll guys do the first service after buying the car new? let me know, thanks..

Whatever it says in the book, so either when the service light comes on (when on variable servicing) or after 1 year (fixed). There is no "early" service on cars now.

Follow your regional instructions for service intervals to ensure you dont void your warranty with your country's dealer network.

I was told 5000 kms here in Beijing. Honestly, earlier is better than later. It never hurts to swap your oil out. This is the first Skoda I've owned, but pretty much every other vehicle using mineral oil I've changed every 5K and full synthetics at 8K. I can hardly believe the intervals reccomended by the variable service computer on the Skoda.

My cars first service was at just short of 30K kms, and now with nearly 160K kms on the clock has been to the dealers 4 times for a service and from what I can make out reading here its one of the most reliable on the forum.

so its ok to use the same engine oil for 5k + kms? i heard after running in the engine which is 1.5k kms the engine needs fresh oil, is this true?

As above, what ever it says in the manual.

Yes, it should be fine. 5k kms is nothing for modern oils and engines. The change at 1.5k kms is also irrelevent in this day and age.

If your locale is particularly demanding on the engine, then the changes maybe more frequient than mine but I dont see it being below 16k kms between changes. If you do changes in between and have an issue which needs a warranty repair, the dealer may use the fact that you have changed the oil outside the service schedule to void the warranty on the car.

How would they know?

Test the oil, check ECU for starters.
