Experiences with telephone function and Columbus??

Featured Replies

I posted this question on the Superb II Forum, expecting that there are not enough Yeti's in opertion with Columbus as yet(i):My Yeti is on order and includes the Columbus. The dealer has insisted that a Parrot hands-off installation is necessary for connecting and using the mobile phone - a Nokia 3120 Classic - in the car.If I peruse the Columbus Manual, it does talk about connecting the phone via Bluetooth, but is very vague as to what it does. So, does it work to make and receive phone calls with the Columbus without additional kit? It would need to have a microphone, which is also necessary for the voice commands. If so, is it functional? or of so poor voice quality that you do need the Parrot?

Manual spellcheck, why do you only see it after posting??

You need additional kit, the columbus itself has no phone functionality. Over here in the UK we can specify a fully integrated solution that uses the columbus headunit as a controller for a bluetooth module as an optional extra. it should be possible to retro fit this kit into the car rather than go down the parrot route which will not interface fully with the columbus and will not do things such as dialling and phone book/call history etc. on the columbus/maxidot display.

Hi I have a yeti 140 diesel elegance with satnav it connects flawlesly to my nokia 6300

Regards

Mike

It might appear that way but it ain't so... Just to reiterate what Mannyo has said - the Bluetooth module (that integrates with Maxidot, Columbus, MFSW & stalk controls etc) is an extra bit of kit that merely makes it appear as though the satnav connects flawlessly to your Nokia 6300. In the UK, it's a cost option that doesn't come as standard just by ordering a Columbus/Satnav, you have to spec Bluetooth too.

To the original question... with a Parrot kit, you won't be able to use the Columbus/MFSW/Maxidot to make/receive calls or see the phonebook etc. You need the proper Skoda kit either factory fitted or retro fitted for that or even look at Fiscon kits which are a close second best.

All you'll get with a Parrot type kit (at best), is the phone kit using the door speakers for its sound output.

Clear as mud, huh?

Yeti Elegance like Superb Elegance has Bluetooth as standard, option on SE at £300

Gotcha! :) ...still doesn't mean his phone connects to his Columbus though! :D

Another point re the OP ...voice control - a parrot phone kit won't allow Columbus voice control at all. The proper Skoda kit will but needs a minor wiring mod & firmware update... unless someone can confirm they're leaving the factory now with voice control firmware & the mic routed via Columbus?!

I am right in thinking there's a list of compatible phones? Not something I have looked into myself other than being aware of the Yeti spec and that of the Superb as my Dad has one of those.

Don't know if this helps!

Note: I have a Nokia N95 8GB which would not work until I downloaded a patch from Nokia.

Thanks Ray.

The bit about the patch is something I was completely unaware of, take it that's loaded into the phone?

Still in the stone age when it comes to mobile phones; do have a couple of mobiles (work and personal) but only use them occasionally. The personal one doesn't even have a Camera never mind Bluetooth.

Ray isn't being mystic - the compatible phone list is towards the end of the SUK Yeti brochure.

If I remember the Bluetooth is termed GSMII which seems to do its stuff only with mostly 'older' phones. I think other models now get GSMIII with a much longer list.

Thanks Ray.

Correct.

Correct.

Many thanks again.
