Is my Furby standard?

Featured Replies

My VRS is a great fun car to drive... Compared to my last few rides anyway...

Heres the thing... It goes like a b'stard... Revs comfortably round to 4k and a bit

pulling eagerly all the way... Turbo gets going proper about 1750 and just keeps going till I change up... The guy I bought the car from worked at Silverstone and he fabricated a glass fibre custom air intake a'la PD160. Made a tidy job of it too I'd say although its obviously

not OEM in appearance, so i spotted it immediately when checking the car over. He had also made some custom twin tail pipes out of stainless steel and fitted them to the original backbox. But previously I'd test driven a few in my search for "the one"

and theres no doubt (in retrospect) that this one was far more lively than the others.

I'm guessing the previous owner mapped it.... Is there any way other than putting her on a rolling road to find out if this is the case?? Are there tell tale signs a car has been mapped?? Its a bit of a bleeder in the wet but Its well posted on here that that is the case often anyway, also I admit the budget tyres which are still on there probably don't help...

If I have got to rolling road it... How much dosh will I need.. Revo at thurrock is near me

should I take her down there??

Hmm, impossible performance is down that way I think too, but might be further.

Best idea would be to find a Briskodian with the same car, but stock, and do some testing. ;)

Look on the V5 for the previous owners details, drop them a call or letter? easy way to find out ;)

Or if the guys that have the rolling road do maps, you could ask them to check for a nominal fee rather than forking out for the rr? Thats if you're just interested in if its mapped

VCDS and see what boost requests are - but apart from that, either back-to-back testing with another Furby, or stick it on a 'road.

I'd say easiest way to tell, floor it in second, if you have a hint of traction then its standard!

The free reviving at the top with good pull could just be the intake as it's my understanding the PD160 on a standard car brings these results even with out a map?

The Turbo really kicking at 1750 is where mine starts.. You get that take off effect as it swooshes round from 1500 up.

Mines Stock as far as I know and it's always gone past 4k with no complaints but you do notice a the power thinning out past 4.2k ish, but maybe I need a PD160 intake ;)

All of that said, the fact the guy made his own intake and tail pipe trims does make me think he would most likely of gotten a map. I'm sure I don't have to tell you, but if you are mapped you really need to tell your insurers once you've found out for sure.

I guess one more thing to keep in mind is some Fabia's have been known to make over 150bhp from the factory.. some are just good.. I guess equally though that some must have left only putting out 120 as well. Just look up Mr wobble tickles, his loves to rev too.

Mine gets good traction, so that's not always the case. :D

Thanks for such a long reply, I appreciate you taking the time... This sounds very much like how my car performs... Not that I make a habit of it but I have toasted a few motors out there that frankly I would have thought I wouldn't have stood a chance against. Because of the previous owners link with Silverstone and I would imagine also people in motorsport generally, Clearly he had access to a quality workshop because the workmanship is pukka.

I strongly suspect the engine has been fiddled with too. I must say however, that my engine bay looks dead clean, undertray complete and unscraped, no suspension mods that I can see, standard ride height etc he certainly hasn't gone mad with the mods. In fact the ONLY things that look non standard are the tailpipes and the intake. I think I'll spend a few quid and rolling road it. I want to know my figures.;)

Thanks also to all of you who have put your tuppence worth in. Thanks are disabled I think so I'll have to owe you all 1 ;)
