Squeaky/sticking clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Hi folks. Just wondering if anyone else has a clutch pedal that is very squeaky and sticks as it is pressed/released?

I have looks in the Haynes and it says that the "clutch pedal pivot bushes" can be re-newed without removing the whole assembly from the car although also states that "access is poor". Would I just be able to maneuverer the pedal out of the way enough to just re-grease the joint and maybe get away with just doing that that?

It seems it is held on by a split pin on either end so shouldn't be too hard to get off if I can get into them ok :)

hi phil, i must admit i've never taken the clutch pedal out before, i'll have a good look at mine tomorrow and see if i can give you some guidance.

Mine got squeaky and sticky but I sprayed some grease on it and it quietened down

I have tried spraying some WD-40 on it with the little straw and it helped a little but wore off and became squeeky again.

Thanks Tom!

try using silicone spray phil

It's common on Favorits and Felicias for the clutch cable to get partially siezed because of the way it's routed close to the exhaust manifold....could be your problem if it's not the pedal bushes.

Will try sliding the pedal across later and having a look. If I take out the left hand split pin I should be able to slide it to the left a bit to have a look at the bushes.

The theory on the clutch cable also sounds... err... fun! lol

I will also check that out. TBH it feels more like it is the pedal but hard to tell exactly.

I changed my clutch cable recently because it was starting to affect drive-ability. The old cable is so stiff to pull through compared to the new one it's unbelievable, and the clutch feels much better now. Also try WD40 sprayed onto the clutch cable so it gets taken inside it, get someone to push the clutch in and out and spray away. I found this helped a great deal, but soon wore off.
