Subwoofer Help Please

Featured Replies

Hi All,I have an Infinity Basslink sub in my Fabia vRS and for no apparent reason it cut out earlier; I'd like some ideas as to what that might be and how I go about rectifying it please. It was working fine then cut out. Having checked the connections all appears to be well. Power is being supplied to it as the LED illuminates. All the dials on the unit are at the same levels as before. The Alpine head unit has the sub level turned up. The fuse in the engine bay seems to be intact, explaining the LED illumination.Puzzled really. Are there any other fuses I should check? Could the connection at the rear of the head unit worked loose? Anything else that might explain it? Any helpful responses will be greatly appreciated. Please specify any details as to how I rectify the problem if you know the cause. Thanks in advance everyone,Iain.

I take it you've checked your earth? Did you connect your fuse wire directly to the battery?

take the actual sub cone out of the box if u can. i had a similar problem whereby the little bolts that hold the connectors to the plastic thing where u put the speaker wire had come off. other than the obvious checks go from the sub, to the amp, along the wiring, to the headunit, then back into the engine bay . . . if there is no obvious problsms I would take it all out and put it all back together bit by bit to ensure nothing is broken or damaged, hope ya get it sorted soon.

Kablam, thank you for your reply. I had the sub fitted at an audio shop- the earth connection is hidden and is about the only thing I've not physically checked (so I will), but I would have thought a loose earth would have resulted in an intermittant fault rather than just cutting out. As for the fuse wire, the power lead runs from the battery and has a large enclosed fuse in the engine bay and then runs back to the sub itself has a 20A blade fuse which I've changed and made no difference. Any ideas?

REH17, thank you for your reply. The sub is an amplified unit, but I'll have a look for what you've mentioned. As bad luck would have it I bought it just over a year ago, so no warranty cover. Plus there don't apear to be any specific repairers of car audio to have a look at it. Nightmare. Thanks again.

If all the wiring is fine, and this is a recent fault, it could be that the amp is overheating... Or that your battery is weakened in the winter and can't handle it.

Hi there mate!

I have the same problem and was about to post a thread on it!

Basically, I have the Basslink II with the add-on 4 channel amplifier!

I am using that to power the front OEM speakers.

All has been well for about 18 months perfect sound no problems...

Now the past 3 weeks it has started playing up:

- Sub will randomly cut in and out or will work and then "fart" at higher volumes"

- Front speakers start "clipping randomly", I say randomly because it seems worse at lower volumes than at higher volumes

- General distortion from front speakers at random points, cutting in and out, cuts out more when turning the steering wheel at low speeds?!

I've checked all connections and they are fine.

The lights are coming on on the amp and even at higher volumes the red "warning" light is not coming on.

I have tried turning the gains down and it makes no difference it still "clips" randomly.

The strange thing is, if I turn the gain OFF on the sub, the front speakers work, and if I turn the gain OFF on the front speakers the subwoofer works!

The car is an 04 and still on original battery.

Is it possible, that the battery or alternator are on their way out and with both amps turned on they simply cannot pull enough power from the battery to power them properly?

Any ideas?
