Radio reception - Gone..

Featured Replies

My car has developed its first fault this week, I was wondering if anybody has any ideas?..MW stations have very poor reception (I mainly listen to radio 5). FM is OK generally, but not great in built up areas. Both were fine last week. I unscrew the roof aerial (I have estate). The aerial cannot be removed totally as far as I can tell. But when I unscrew it, nothing changes. Which suggests to me thet the actual aerial is at fault?. The car is under warranty, so I'll book it in.. unless anyone knows a magic trick to fix it!

Common fault ,get it changed under warranty .

Its the signal booster in the base of the antenna, as fikes says the fault is as common as muck. Our 2007 vRS had a new one fitted 2 weeks ago along with a new CD changer.

Yup, it's the aerial signal booster/amplifier, which seems to have poor water sealing. Ours went after3 years (out of guarantee) and the local dealer had to order in a new one as it wasn't in stock. On checking the part number, they said: "Oh yes, we seem to have fitted quite a few of those". So I gently suggested that they might be well advised to keep one or two in stock at all times for a quick turnaround....
