Strange Tyre Wear

Featured Replies

My car went in for its first MOT yesterday - sailed through. However I had one advisroy - nearside front tyre down to 3mm.

Around 7-8 months ago I had 4 brand new tyres fitted on the car - Bridgestone RE050A's

The other 3 tyres have plenty of tread left on them, just this one seems to have worn down at an alarming rate.

To the point where it won't be long until I have to replace it and as I prefer all tyres on an axle to be the same, I'll probably end up buying two.

Any reason why a single tyre should ware down so much quicker than the others?

Are there a lot of roundabouts in your area?

Maybe the wheel alignment is out.

Where did you get them from? Is there any chance the worn one has a colder temperature rating than the other three (and is therefore softer)? Not as likely as the previous suggestions, I admit. But something to consider if they don't lead anywhere...

I guess you should have your track and camber adjusted....I really can't think of any tire issues or roundabouts.....the UK is full of the latter, more cars would have that problem if that was the cause.

There are two compounds for that tyre, soft and normal so worth checking. How even is the wear?

If it were roundabouts, wouldn't it actually be offside tyre wear?

The actual wear is very good - it's down to 3mm all over.

I've looked at all the writing on the tyre and it matches the other three so I'm convinced all of the tyres are the same.

I have noticed that there is some "peeling" around the rim of the tyre - strands of rubber coming off.

Looks like moulding left-over, but nothing of the sort on the other three.

I think it's possible I've got a faulty tyre here.

I may go have a chat with the people I bought them from - although the chances of them agreeing with me seem very small.
