Superb Boot Leak

Featured Replies

Guys a slight variation on the water leak issue. I Have found a pool of water in my spare wheel area as well as on the inside of the spare wheel. it is also in the storage bin on offside of boot only. As there is some sitting on the inside of the spare wheel I'm assuming its coming in form above rather than below. Its been fine all summer ( and lets face it we had plenty of rain) i reckon this has happened within the last 4 weeks! the near side storage bin in boot is bone dry ( so thankfully is the interior) any ideas guys?

Great to see the site back up and running!!!

Have you had a tow bar fitted? If you have, did the fitter replace the crash bar bolts? Failing that my money would be on a rear light seal or the boot seal.

I would check the back of the rear light clusters, especially the one on the side of the most leakage. Do you have a cracked rear lens at all? or do you have the newer light clusters on the back? Just my two pence worth as a place to have a butchers.

Are the newer style lights prone to leaking?

it has had a tow bar fitted but it was already on the car when i bought it in march. then only thing in that area that been changed is the actually tow ball as my caravan has a alko stabliser. bearing in mind the terrible summer we have had I'm skeptical its that but will certainly look at.

Ive put a binliner over the carpet in the corner thats wet and when i finish this god awful night shift hopefully it will have ****ed down and i might be a bit closer to tracing it. I did when underneath and had the spare wheel out see a glimmer of daylight form the grommit that is below the part that the spare wheel screws into but it was a tiny hole and cant see it would have caused this much water. and cant see how it would have got tot he storage bin form the spare wheel area but did put some sealant in there just incase.

Not that I am aware of, but owing to VW cheap foam seal they use on most things, it was just my twopence worth, and somewhere I would look.

Thanks. I just asked as I have a set of facelift rear lights to go on mine.

I'm Thinking that this is really bad news but stripped out all the trim yesterday and tried to trace the leak with a hose pipe. it is trickling in through a joint and sealant in the boot. cant see how though I'm guessing I'm gonna have to take the bumper off! i have pics of the location if anyone can offer any pearls of advice??? Definitely not the lights or the boot seal!

I have a leak but its on an octavia, its coming in from a body seam as well,i removed the rear bumper and all i could find is where the bumper is bolted on at the sides, slightly further towards the rear of the car there is holes in the bodywork and all that lines up with them is a small loctaing pin on the bumper, but the hole in the bodywork is about 5 times the size.
