Engine Management light and injector cleaner

Featured Replies

Hi there, got the dreaded engine management light (orange picture of an engine) on on the dash in my 2003 Octavia vRS the other day. Car is running fine, starting ok, idling ok, accelerating ok (you get the picture) but I've got this darn light on. I've booked the car in for diagnostics to be run but then it occurred to me whether something I'd done recently might have caused the problem.

I got the well reported flat spot problem around 1500 rpm a couple of weeks ago, checked on the forum and decided to treat the car to some Shell V-Power and a dose of injector cleaner. I'm now wondering whether my rather rich dinner might have given the car indigestion.

Anyone reckon there is anything in that or am I just showing off my ignorance of the engine and its electronics. I will mention this when I take it in to be checked anyway.

Cheers, Steve

Did you clean the throttle body? i.e. take it off and clean it? Might be worth doing that.

90% of the time this is a split breather hose and dirty throttle body. So check out the two hoses, and clean the TB to start off with. Can't really advise much more without knowing the error codes.
