Out of interest, I noticed in my Haynes manual that an Octavia Mk1could be on one of 3 different service schedules (2 fixed & 1 variable).

Can you tell by the age or VIN number of an Octavia Mk 1 which servicing intervals it's on, for example if you're looking to buy one and don't want to be misled?

i dont know the answer to this but the best service schedule is yearly or ever 12k miles whatever comes first

as a note i change my oil every 6 months on the vrs regardless of miles worth doing for the little outlay to do...

Theres a sticker under the boot carpet which tells how it left the factory, but this could havebeen changed at any point.
