It's on the road

Well, after meeting some of you guys at the Maidstone meet last night, I've taken delivery of my black Fabia vRS (plus sunroof, cruise, xenons, side bags) and so far it's going pretty well. Shame they can't deliver them already run in as it's going to be a bit tough showing enough restraint for the next 600+ miles!

Mine has the diff whine as mentioned elsewhere although not yet come across the brake noise in reverse.

Problems so far are:

a) almost impossible to get it into first gear (either at a standstill or while the car's still moving forward a little);

B) brake lights only come on with some serious pedal pressure which I'm not happy about.

Couple of other things will probably be fine once I've read the manual a bit...

Seems very well screwed together although - coming from a VW - it's noticeable that the quality of the plastics themselves in the interior isn't as good. There's a couple of other things that make you realise how they can do it for the money, but the drive is great and the first overtake was to pass a Audi S3 which pleased me no end :D . She wasn't driving at all fast though :(

Excellent, glad you've got it.

I find that the brake lights (on my Octavia) come on with the merest hint of pressure, so you may have a problem. I also don't remember reading about synchro problems with the Fabia, although I don't always read the "Fabia" threads as thoroughly as I should.

Snap! Same colour, same diff whine, 1st gear is difficult unless the car's stationary, got mine yesterday lunchtime. Haven't checked my brake lights yet! I too have come from a VW (Mk4 Golf) and yes it's not quite as well finished but the Fab is solidly built. Running in will call for a lot of restraint. It's strange but today it seems everybody on the road seems to be trying to hit me.. that's paranoia for you!

Would suggets you take speak to your dealer about the Brake lights.

get them to check the brake pedal sensor.

Steve

Strange, I too came from a mk4 golf, and a mk 3 before that. Am I the only one who thinks the fab is as well put together, if not better??

No rattles, no whine, no brake squeal, no problems

Thanks - it going into the dealer ASAP as the brakes are sticking too (combination of hot smell, excessive slowing down with no brake pedal pressure and the pedal not fully returning to the usual position).

Also there's already moss growing in the driver's door window rubber. I don't think it can have been sitting in a field for ages as it's the 2005 model - when did they start manufacturing them?

I'd say the interior is very well screwed together - equally as good as Golfs/Polos etc BUT the quality of the plastic is not as "expensive" as the VWs; harder stuff and not as tactile.

Really???.....soft to the touch in mine.

Like several other Briskodians, I swopped my 2 year old Golf TDI Mk 4 for a Furby TDi Comfort and went on to a Furby vRS as soon as it came out. The perky PD100 engine and the better chassis more than made up for slight drop in finish from the Golf and less things have gone wrong in the two Fabias than the Golf. The vRS package is just the icing on the cake, adding most of the mods I would have liked to add to the PD100. Skoda's great pricing on this model is what makes them an unbeatable fun for the money.

Definitely agreed the chassis is much better than my old Polo, and obviously it's loads quicker (well, it does have 55bhp more) and rides better.

Mine's got hard plastic along the top of the doors and dashboard; is yours different then Mr Carefree? Interesting...
