Why is "oil" flashing up when the level is ok?

Featured Replies

my vrs fabia has been flashing up OIL and the spanner this mornin. check the oil level regularly and its fine, and only changed it about 5 month ago? why is it flashing if the level is ok?

this happened to me, probably cos u changed the oil at different intervals than what the car is set to nowt to worry about tbh.

That means it wants a service, did you reset the service interval when you last changed the oil?

i never reset the interval, to a certain milage just removed the spanner. but it flashed "service" last time not "oil" this mean they where done at different times?

One is indicating an oil change service, one is indicating a full service. On my MPI it's an oil change every 10k and a full service every 20k, hence they will show up at different times, but obviously the full service includes the oil service.

I am having the same problem the spanner and oil sign came up 5 months after my last full service at which time the oil and filter were changed. It's done 5,000 since the last service. Last year it did 10,000 miles between services with no oil and spanner sign coming on at the half way mark. As far as I know the car is set up to have its oil changed every 10,000 miles or 12 months whichever comes first. Is this a cunning plan by Skoda to get you to change your oil and filter every 5,000 miles

To clear it see your handbook. Basically it is done using the little knob which controls to odometer zero and clock, but there is a difference between the sequence of actions between different year/models and it can drive you mad if you haven't got just the right instructions for your car. Mine also comes on every 5K has done since new so don't worry Joe (Do they want your money? -Yes!).

No, it's just that the instrument pack service indicator hasn't been fully reset at the correct point. IIRC for an oil change, you just reset the oil counter, and for a full service, do both.

Hmm i've done 8k since I reset my oil and service indicators and they haven't came back on

Hopefully won't till it's getting it's service lol

Thia used to happen on my fabia Vrs just after service, it would have oil change & service, and 5K later the oil light would come back on. The dealer could not understand why this was happening despite the miles / days indicator being reset.

He advised doing a manual reset ( as described in manual - or serach here) and they would do normal service interval resets. I never did find ou why this always happened.

Last year I had the car serviced by the main dealer and no oil sign at the half way point. This year as it was out of warrenty so I went to an independent garage, may be thats why you pay £xxxxxxxxx to the main dealer they know how to reset the counter. I will just have to pay the lower cost to the independent and get them to rest the counter next time :o)
