  • Well, the standard fit are 19mm on normal bushes even with the sleeves. There are two schools of thought on this. The smaller diameter ones do have to squash down a bit though. I've got 19mm and I'm

apologies for reviving an old thread but i changed my front ARB bushes for superpro ones today

The arb already had the sleeves broken off

I copper greased everything up and the car is still rattling when driving :(

also changed my wishbones so its had new bushes/balljoints a while ago too

any suggestions to what else i can try? noise seems to be coming from the centre of the car

Drop links?

Normally make a front end rattle when travelling over bad road surfaces, like a cobbled road.

If it's not them then go for 17mm ARB bushes if you haven't already.

It's still nice and silent and feels great with the 19mm SuperPro bushes and no sleeves

im the same as Rob..using 19mm superpros without the sleeves

will try changing the drop links Bodge

Rob- i checked Rad and there was slightly play in it...tightened it up so it doesn't move but still rattles

  • 2 years later...

OK, so I know this is almost 3 years old, but I did search and this is what came up.

I've had my superpro bushes in for about 350miles now and I've got to the point where I don't want to drive the car now, the creaking is that bad. I've had it back to the garage today and mentioned the ARB sleeves, but they seem to think it's a "pin-bush" that's creaking and it might settle down in time? It used to creak before, but only when going over big speed bumps.

Basically I've replaced every bush under the front of the car (except the steering rack one) with superpro, inc the 19mm ARB ones. The sleeves are still intact as far as I know. I've also replaced all 4 shocks and springs, the top mounts and the drop-links. I was hoping for and expecting, a brilliant feel, nice ride and zero f*cking noise :wall:

So my questions are:

  1. If it is the ARB sleeves, is this an almost constant creaking even on almost smooth-ish roads?
  2. What does the fact that it gets worse when cornering hard, point to?
  3. Could it settle down in time?

Many thanks,

Nathan

Settle down in time my @r$e. Smash the sleeves off already. They were damn sure the culprits on mine. And several others I've worked on.

Mine creaked until I removed those sleeves.

Right, I'll have to see about smashing these 'ere sleeves off then! Can it be done with the ARB in situ then? And how long is it likely to take a burly mechanic type with a large hammer and lift? That's not me by the way!

It's easy. I used a hammer and screwdriver. They're pretty brittle plastic so they shatter.

So easy that even a hammer wielding novice with a jack and some axle stands could do it?

I'm guessing looking at your pictures, I can just take the ARB bushes off, leave the ARB itself attached to the drop-links, smack the sleeves about a bit and re-fit the bushes (with seemingly obligatory swearing and cursing!)

Bang on, that's how I did it.

Now to find a hammer, a jack and you guessed it....some biscuits to munch on whilst I do the work this weekend :)

Thanks for the advice guys!

You'll want to wire brush all the corrosion off from under the sleeves and cleaning before lubing and refitting though. They're usually quite pitted underneath. Not a difficult job.

So let me get this right, I got the revised bar fitted under warranty years ago.

I've had SP bushes and now back on OE ones and it still squeeks but only when the road is dry. When wet it goes quiet.

Should I still remove the sleeve ??

Do I need smaller bushes after doing this ??

Letts get this annoying pita squeek gone good lol

That's exactly what mine did on the original bushes! Road dry, creaked like hell over big bumps. Roads wet, silent.

Now with the SP bushes, wet or dry, bumps or not, it creaks. Badly.

Just re-read the thread properly, I have no sleeve.

So WTF now lol

I feel your pain bro !!

I'm gonna break out the lithium grease when it's dry next to double check it's them

17mm bushes fixed mine with newer style grooved brackets

I got the grooved brackets, which bar are running though old/new ??

Have you still got the sleeves ??

No, if you remove sleeves you need the 17mm bushes

Thats just it. I don't think I have the sleeves that can be removed. Iirc mine are flush with a kind of fixed washer around the bar. I'll see if I can find a photo

Squeaking again thos morning !!!

No, if you remove sleeves you need the 17mm bushes

I'm using 19mm Superpro bushes with no sleeves and no issues for over 4 years now.

Mine were almost silent this morning in -5 temperature....for about 3 miles. Then they got progressively worse.

I'm going to call the garage today and see if they will smash the sleeves off and try it with the 19mm bushes as Rob has. Any ideas how long that would take them?

Half hour tops. Wheels off undo clamps, smash, don back up
