Water in footwells

Featured Replies

After just thinking the my second vRS hasn't had a fault in 15000 miles and 15 months of use I found that both the front and rear nearside footwells are soaking wet. The walls of the footwells are completely dry and no signs of where the water entered could be found. It appears to have come from below are there any drain plugs in the floorpan that may have fallen out? Or does anyone have any ideas?

Had this happen to mine, and had all the door seals replaced under warranty.

Sounds like the very common VAG problem -- leaking door carriers. Take the interior door panels off on another car, and you'll see a big plastic sheet bonded to the door. VAG cars have an metal panel either bolted or rivetted (depending on model) to the door frame, and this is sealed with a spongey /gooey type gasket. If this gasket goes, water will be leaking into the car over the sills into the footwells.

I've had to do all the doors on tour Seat Leon because of this. Have a quick look on the seatcupra.net site to see just how common this problem is.

Also have a look at www.octavia-vrs.com, there's a section in there, with photos, about how to repair the leak with household sealer, no dealer involved! This is the method I've used for the Leon, and following a question I put on these forums recently, will be sealing all the doors on my Octy as soon as we've got a decent, warm day as a preventitive measure, as it was an absolute nightmare stripping the Leon interior and carpets out to dry them out properly.

Hope this helps

Mike
