2 Small faults on Fab VRS

Featured Replies

Hi all, Just found 2 small problems on my Fabia, first one isnt to much of a worry but the rear washer isnt shooting any water on the rear window. The pump runs and the wiper moves but thats it. the nozzle appears clear too. Any ideas? im guessing either a faulty pump of a blockage somewhere but im not sure where the pipe runs in the car to check.

My other problem which is a bit of a concern is my center seat belt isnt retracting the belt back. If you tug hard, it locks as its supposed to and seems to release but it will only wind the belt back a bit if you force the belt down into the seat and this only works for half the belt. Ive not got a slack belt just hanging aimlessly on the rear seat. Is there a way of getting to the roller mechnaism in the seat or has the whole seat backrest got to be repalaced for a new one?

thanks

Steve

In the case of the washer , check your rear carpets aren't getting wet, iirc there is a joint somewhere under the rear seats that tends to blow apart especially in icy weather if the jet gets frozen. A quick search should throw up a few threads on this (if the search is working :wonder: )

Not heard of the centre seat belt being a problem before, I would imagine the seat back will be removable and the unit able to be replaced or checked that it isn't catching on dislodged foam (not sure how far down the back it is located). Otherwise it will be the scrappers for a new seat?

Havent noticed any wet carpets as yet but wil try and search for the previous topics and see what i can find about it. As for the seat, it was getting dark so didnt have a good look but it did look like the rear seat/boot side fabric is sealed to the seat unit which makes me a worry a bit about access to the thing :(

can help u with ur first problem because it happend to me lol, poen the n/s passenger rear door and remove the trim with a flatblade screwdriver and check see if it hasnt come off there, thats were mine come off and its ok now cos its cabletied lol so no more leaks hopefully lol. if not there lift up the boot and remove the plastic cover where the wiper motor is situated and check to see if the pipe hasnt come of the motor. if not that unblock the jet with a pice of wire or something thats suitable to clean it out .

The rear washer jets pop off in 4 places:

The boot connector under the plastic trim (your boot carpet will be soaking wet if you use the jets

Rear passenger side plastic trim next to the seat (again wet foot well etc.)

Connector against the bulk head under the bonnet (its in the centre and goes straight through the bulkhead towards the cabin) get someone to squirt the jets and look for water shooting out!

The last place, and the hardest to get to is apparently under one of the wheel arches where it connects to the pump. can't remember which, but I think its a case of removing the wheel, removing the lining then clipping back in!

All should be fairly easy to check for, just look where its running out

Oh and by the way, i'd think twice before cable tying! Pretty sure they're designed to pop off like that when theres a blockage so that it doesn't damage the pump

Thanks Confused_Cheese, il give it a good check over when i next get a chance. im not bothered too much about it as its not a saftey or MOT issue but im still worried about the centre seat belt issue at this time tho.

mines was the same mine had popped off at the passengers side at the bulkhead mate

Is the seat definitely locked in position OK? In the Octavia if the seat back is unlocked then the seat belt locks and won't move - it's connected to the seat release mechanism.

Assuming it is the same as the Octavia you can get at the seatbelt mechanism, you need to undo the seat back, unbolt the seatbelt from the floor of the car take it out and then pull the fabric off all the way round the edge of the seat back and then take the foam off. Part of the mechanism may be behind a piece of metal riveted to the seat back which you can't easily get at but you can see most of the gubbins. You need quite a bit of brute force to remove the cover, you need to pull the fabric away from the back of the seat back as it is kind of looped round and has a plastic edge which locates into a channel on the seat back.

It's on the passengers side (UK cars). Pretty easy to get to really. Turn wheels to the right, then it's about 4 torx screws, then the liner pulls back so you can push it together by hand.

If it's this join, or the bulkhead one, you will see water dripping/pouring out under the car.

Can't help on the seat belt issue as I only have a lap belt.:(

Joe.

Thought it was passenger side but wasn't 100% sure! Thanks for the info...

The bulkhead ones the easiest, took me about 30 seconds :D

Hello all

I am having problems with the rear washer pipe too. Mine seems to be leaking out of the black plastic fitting that goes into the wiper motor on the tailgate. All the pipes are still connected ok and some fluid does get on the rear screen but also it runs down the inside of the tailgate. I have filles the holes with sealant at lunch today so will see how I get on?

sounds like the conection isnt fully on in the boot as mentioned in a few posts above :)

Trundlenut, will check your idea, the seat is deffo locked, but could be a linkage not quite on properly. either way it looks like a right bummer to get at the rewind reel :(
