Warm kettle water on the windows.

Featured Replies

Always used hot straight out of the tap -found that hotter the better ,as it tends to remove ice and excess evapourates rather than freezing .Never had any problems with damage ( says he holding on to large chunk of timber) ,but one old Vauxhall required WD 40 treatment to door mechanicals due to winder/lock mechs freezing .And that's in a wide range of cars & vans from various makers in a time span of 43 years .

Find at that temp ,if I use a litre jug ,I can pour a stream on the windscreen and side windows, keeping some back to finish off the windscreen .Works a treat on Transits where you'd need a can of de icer to clear the windscreen ,only to find that the liquid freezes again .( and on deisel ones ,you need to get it working =moving to get the heater to work) .

OH-and it works great on mirrors to .

Get a garage. Simples.

FOR the past 40 odd years I've used water from the hot tap - in a jug, that lets me pour in a stream onto windows/sides /mirrors - never had a problem - get it hot enough to melt ice and evaporate .Only problem I've ever had was with water getting into winders/doorlocks and WD40 cured that . I've always found that de icer does that - and then the liquid FREEZES - causing you more problems .oN A CAR -THAT'S OK - but on something like a Transit van - where the heater don't do anything till you've done about 15 miles -and you need a can per de ice - MASSIVE PROBLEMS .
