Roof rails

Featured Replies

The roof rails seem to add to wind noise (judging from some of the earlier reviews) and I can't imagine ever using them. So:

Can you delete them from the spec (or take them off once fitted)? The fact that they don't seem to have been fitted to some review vehicles suggest that they're not a mandatory part of the structure. But if you could delete them then what would be left - presumably there must be some fixings in situ for locating the rails. And would these vestigial fixings add some wind noise of their own?

And how would the Yeti look without rails? Maybe not so good? But maybe OK?

Amy thoughts?

Edit: Who is Amy? But if she has any thoughts they'd be welcome. I meant 'Any thoughts' of course.

I would happily trade the roof rails for ESP on the lower spec Yeti that I am considering. They do add a touch of ruggedness to the looks but that is all the more ironic on the two wheel drive version that I want. But... then I suppose that there are a lot of two wheel drive regular estate cars out there with roof rails.

Well it made me chuckle so thanks.

well I am pretty sure you would have some decent size holes to blank off in each corner but why remove the rails? don't give me much bother if any plus they are an intrinsic part of the Monsters design from concept. Just wouldn't be Yeti without them.

Edit

PS not seen a Yeti without them, so a bit confused when you say they were not fitted to some vehicles.

I can't say that I've noticed any wind noise attributable to the roof rails when on the motorway or at any other time.

I noticed wind noise around the leading edge of the roof rail on the 2.0 140 hp test vehicle, starting around 120 km/hr.

On my actual car, I have not noticed any noise from that area at that and a bit higher speed. It is really quiet till around 130 km/hr, when you do hear some wind, engine and exhaust, but very little road noise, except on some of the coarse granulate motorway surfaces they liked to build here around 10 years ago.

Incidentally, parked my Yeti next to a silver Honda HR-V 5-door yesterday. It is spookily similar from the side except it does not have roof-rails.

But obviously, the Yeti is much more capable off-road!

Let us hoe that this is so.

Anthony, everything is more capable than a Honda HR-V!!

Honda HR-V.. do not make me laugh ..................         imho Honda's piece of c*****

I had to drive a Honda HRV for a number of weeks as a company car and it was the biggest pile of cheap nasty tat that I ever had the misfortune to drive. Sorry, no, a Daewoo Matiz was worse but it came close....
