Skoda MPV on the horizon ?

Featured Replies

Supplement with February 2010 suggests that the facelift Volkswagen Touran will be due possibly in August 2010. The following words are also included in the article :-

"We've heard through the grapevine that VW-owned Skoda is also spreading its wings and will be launching an MPV based on the Touran. It's likely to be a little cheaper than the VW version, and is set to go on sale by early 2011".

Anyone have any additional information, or confirmation whether or not this is official ?

This was original article in 2008 giving 2010 as arrival date. Obviously has now been set back til 2011 if thats what you've read.

Cheers SR - a vRS version of the Van would be tempting

And there's something quite endearing about the Mini Van as well

Sorry but if it were to look anything like that I'd be reaching or is that wreaching for the sick bucket.

Sympathies from me Mr Jones but Brimma doesn't take it easy on anyone. You've got to either take it or give as good as you get.

This MPV looks more like a VW Touareg competitor. Are you sure is not a new model that is going to be build over the VW Touareg with similar interior?

I was under the impression that Skoda where going to do 'something' with the Roomster next year, wasn't quite sure what though....

Looks like a streched fatter A class Merc a bit.

Its about time skoda jumped on the MPV bandwagon, a good move IMO.

This is from AutoExpress, they basically print lies and misinformation.

Bin it?

I heard it's not sold well.

The headlights on that photo look like a very scary pair of eyes!!!

I'd buy one if the price was right, although what I really want is a Yeti; after all, it IS my nickname.

Yeah numbers aren't great in this country at all, but the rest of Europe it sells pretty well.

I think if the Roomster was the Touran (as was the original plan) we would have sold a lot of them but instead Skoda where brave and went with the design they did and as you know the Roomster is marmite car, I like it but only in certain colours with certain options. Plus the other great thing about the Roomster is how unfeasably well it handles!

Now this sounds ideal for us. I have been pondering over the Yeti ever since I found it had no spare wheel [ a must in Australia] - or if it did you immediately lost some rear space. We have no need fo the Yeti as a 4WD, so an MPV that's a little bigger than a Yeti but with raised seat height and Skoda virtues would be good. We had a Zafira which we traded for a Nissan X_Trail and regretted ti straight away. I hope tehy bring it to Australia, if it goes ahead.

PS Mind you this [undated? but probably mid 2009] doesn't look so promising 4WheelsNews

Within five years, Skoda will see its range expand from five models to seven, including a five-door coupe. Fitting nicely between the Fabia and the next-generation Octavia, the Focus-Astra-sized car will go on sale in 2012 or 2013.

The five-door coupe, which will use the same basic platform similar to the Volkswagen Golf, features the VW Group’s small-capacity normally aspirated and turbocharged petrol engines and DSG transmissions. For cost reasons, it will not get the Super’s Twinhatch boot.

This has to be a joke! "Fitting nicely between the Fabia and the next-generation Octavia" So again another smaller car?

I really dont undertand what is Skoda doing? I dont think the Roomster is a big seller. Here in my country they only have sell like 3 of does cars and like 2 of the comercial Roomster called Skoda Practik. Personally I also dont like the boxy look and small Yeti!

Unfortunately I think this 5 door Coupe is off the agenda now :(

Next Skodas should be the Skoda version of the Up! city car, and a replacement for the Octavia 1 which is still being produced. That will be half way in size between Fabia and Octavia and is intended mostly for developing markets.

I think there would be a market for a well-designed, not too quirky Skoda 7-seater MPV, especially if there was a CR vRS version, a bit like what Vauxhall did with the VXR Zafira, but running on the opposite type of fuel to what Babs likes :D

I have started a blog on this topic, which came up in my research for a new car. The Yeti is on the list, but his vehicle would probably suit better. We had an old model Zafira and regretted trading it for an X-Trail SUV. Not that I think this "Van" model would ever get to Australia - especailly with that name!!. Here, people don't tend to buy MPVs, they would rather get an SUV and pretend they have a connection with the outback ;) We call these SUVs Toorak Tractors after a very expensive inner suburb of Melbourne. Anyway, my humble Skoda MPV blog is at this URL. I would love to have a comment section, but I can't do that with iWeb, the software I am using. If people want to comment here, I will keep an eye on this thread, or email me via the button at bottom of the blog page.

If it does ever go into production the rear pillars need to be a bit smaller than they are in the autobild impression, otherwise the third row of seats would be a decidedly dreary place to be
