Window tinting my Furby.

Featured Replies

Hi all. Christmas is upon us and the mother in law has given me the money to get my tints done...

I am 99% sure that I'm going to "tint my car" in Manor Park near Ilford Essex for the work.

I'm looking to have the side windows done as dark as the law states the front windows are allowed to be.

And the rear screen done a couple of shades darker still. This firm use polimax trained fitters and exclusively

use polimax products... Has anybody on here used this company? I'd quite like some feeback if so....

I know the side windows will be quite subtle in colour if I do this but I want all the side windows to match...

I personally think dark rears and clear fronts looks abit naff. Like you couldn't afford to do 'em all!!!

I want the darker rear screen to help with headlight glare...

Any feedback, advice or comments welcome...

AFAIK all modern cars have some degree of light tinting to their windows, and so to the strict letter of the law you cannot even apply a light smoke tint to the front windows. On our last Fabia we had the fronts done with a light smoke, and from the B pillar back done in medium smoke. The effect was quite subtle, and we never had any problems in the three years we had the car. Here's a picture;

I like how that looks JulieD. It's not as huge a transition betweeen fronts and rears

at all. Its nice to be able to look at someone elses car to help get an idea of how

mine will look after tints... Thanks very much for posting the pic...

As stated above, there is little or no room to apply tint to the front side windows as the law states they must allow at least 70% of available light to pass through and most of them are already tinted by the manufacturer to around that level. It's a safety thing really - especially during the winter months when it gets dark so early, you need the best visibilty possible through the side windows and windscreen. Having said that, you'd be quite unlucky to get pulled by the cops for them but I'd err on the side of caution as some traffic officers will issue you a £30 FPN for 'glass not as prescribed' and a VDRS to get the tint removed if they aren't within the legal guidelines. If they allow less than 30% of light through you're looking at a possble £60 fine and 3 points for dangerous parts and accessories. There is no legal limit on the rear side windows or rear screen - they can be as dark as you like, but as you say, there will then be the obvious difference between the front and rear windows then which you don't seem to like. Good luck buddy, post some pics when you're done.
