Diffrence between ASV and AHF engines

Featured Replies

Hello chaps,

I have an octavia 1.9 tdi AHF tdi SLX and looking to get newer octavia 1.9 tdi ASV Elegance?

I went to see one today, but it appears that this ASV engine in lot more noiseir than mine AHF, also its lot more noiser inside?

Is this normal??

By the way, it appears that road tax for ASV engine code is only £120 a year?

Thank you all

If memory serves me correctly, AHF is a 110 BHP TDI with a VNT turbo, but not PD injection, is an ASV PD?

Hi thanks for yor reply,

They are both old high pressure timing pump engines, and not a PD engines. Also they are both 110 BHP. I have an AHF and looking to get ASV, but it appears that ASV is generally lot more louder?

Any suggestions?

Not experienced the ASV, sorry- had an A3 with AHF. PD engines are a little noiser IME.

ah, ok,

I must admit i wasnt that impressed with ASV engine, i drove my car back home and it was lot more quiter and sound inside cabin was lot less than in ASV one.

Thanks for your oppinion and trying to help

My Octy has an ASV engine and I would agree that it is quite noisy when cold, but once it has warmed up I wouldn't say that is is excessively noisy. Never had any experience of the AHF engine though I'm afraid.

I've got an ASV and I wouldn't say it's that noisy but then I haven't driven an ALH and as I am somewhat deaf, I'm probably not the best judge. It is quiter than my old citreon ZX I think.

I would say though the engine in my car is a bit rattly when cold and I would say it's louder and a bit tappety when it's due for a service. I changed the oil a week ago and it does seem and bit quieter now.

ok, thanks for your opinion chaps

I just fancied a newer octavia, there is nothing wrong with mine one, but since the elegance tdi ASV comes with sunroof, rear wipe and wash and plastic head lights i started to change my mind and went to have look this car. Not only engine was noisier, but even inside, it sounded like the sound proofing wasnt as good as in mine one. Mine one is only year older tho.

I must admit this ASV octavia did have full service history and it was nice example, but i belive my AHF octavia had a lot better feel to drive-generally better in all aspects.

Well, if anyone comes up with any ideas please let us know

Thanks you all

I have an '03 ASV engined Elegance estate and it is noiser inside and out than my previous Citroen/ Peugeot diesel engined car.

However, the Octavia gets better when warm and not a problem at higher speeds.

I recently had the timing of the injection pump checked and adjusted to aid starting at zero to 8ºC and that made it a lot quieter at tickover.

Thing is, you would imagine newer the car better the sound proofing, but not in this case. This ASV was noisy when cold and hot, am not saying anything is wrong with the engine just the way its been designed i think??

Find another ASV Octavia and see if it sounds the same?

Might just have been a bad example, or perhaps the pump timing was out.

hi all,

I have had a look on another octavia 03 plate ASV and noise level inside and outside slightly less from the privious one i have road tested the other day, but my one is still lot more quieter (i dont understand?). I have noticed the noise sounds hollow, very much simmilar to pd sporty high performance engines.

Has anyone experienced this hollow noise on pd engines before?
