Aerial

Featured Replies

Some a***hole took a liking to my aerial mast the other day(Merry Christmas). The base looks ok,I can see the the threaded recess;not sure whether there's damage there?

Radio seems to work ok though..?Hopefully it's just a screw in replacement.

Provided there's no damage to the threads, a replacement should just screw in fine, you can get one from Halfords for £5-10.

I always unscrew mine when I got through a car wash to make sure it doesn't get ripped off.

Were plenty on ebay, for just a few quid, when I needed a replacement for my 2001 Passat. Think they are pretty universal and different lengths were available. The rubber end was crumbling away after just 5 years.

Car wash? Do you not value your paint?

Washing the car by hand on anything less than a warm day is sheer masochism. When it is dark, cold and wet, the car wash beckons.

The damage caused by stone chips, shopping trolleys and car park dings far out weighs any real or imagined car wash damage.

And no, I do not "detail" my cars.

Someone posted a nice replacement shark fin aerial recently butt his one needed some additional work.

If one were to purchase one on eBay, would the replacement simply screw in or is there more work needed. Finally, if the standard aerial that comes with the car serves to connect the car kit (i.e. additional GSM antenna) would the replacement eBay one do the same job...

Just screwed in. Check them out on ebay and I think you will find a description of what vehicles they suit. Remove the aerial when leaving the vehicle unattended if you are worried about a repeat theft. But as I said, only a few quid and nothing like as serious as the damage to the old telescopic aerials from yobbos.

I generally use a Karcher pressure washer in the summer months, providing the mad w***e who lives at the end of our road isn't around, she clips/scrathes cars and refuses to pay for the damage & the local plod is in her pocket, because he never does anything about her... :swear::@

In the winter it goes through the car wash, & if I've got it with me I squirt the wheels with wonder wheels to get the crud off.
