  1. Are they not all MkIII facelifts?
  2. Evening, I’ve had my MkIII Octavia Elegance for approaching seven years now and have put over 100,000 miles on it in that time. Averaged closed to 50mpg doing mostly ~40 mile journeys on fast roads, which I’ve been very happy with. I’m looking at replacing it now though and the obvious choice would appear to be a MkIV Octavia. As per the title, I would have ideally opted for the SE-L trim and the 1.5 petrol DSG, but it would appear no such car exists! Having trawled AutoTrader and the 2020 Octavia brochure it would seem that my only pure petrol DSG option is the 2.0 vRS, which I’d rather not go for due to ride quality and economy. The only other DSG options are mild hybrids in either 1.0 SE guise or the 1.4 SE-L. Is the above accurate? I’m not yet willing to embrace MHEV technology until it’s a bit more established so I’m a bit disappointed to see it’s either a vRS or nothing! Might have to look at a Superb instead as there are plenty of petrol DSG examples around, although it is starting to look a bit dated now. Any comments welcome!
  3. Does anyone have any experience of updating the firmware with the engine running? The warning seems to say ‘don’t start the engine mid-update’ rather than ‘don’t start the process with the engine running’… My battery is pretty much new so I imagine it will be fine, but I don’t have a charger so it’s either do it with engine running or hope the battery holds out… Thanks
  4. Ah okay, thanks for that. Hopefully @varooom or @pab567 can assist!
  5. @pab567 Would you be kind enough to PM the latest update for my system please? Not even sure if I’ve got Bolero or Amundsen 😬 but hopefully the photos will assist. Current version is MSTD_EU_SK_P3163 and it’s a 2014 Octavia 3. Thanks so much.
  6. As a rule, dash cam footage is exempt from the DPA under s.36 (when on public roads). It's when it's recording private premises it becomes an issue and as stated above the garage are within their rights to insist it's switched off when on their premises.
  7. Quoting the Data Protection Act seems to be commonplace nowadays when in reality it often doesn't come into it. However, as the garage/dealer is a private premises then they are well within their rights to insist on the dash cam being removed. Call it a condition of entry. Much like people complaining about being searched when entering a nightclub; fine, don't allow me to search you, but you're not coming in unless you let me.
  8. When I was looking to buy my 1.4 TSI I found that all the manual ones were £110 to tax and the DSG only £30.
  9. So if I wanted to replace the current springs/dampers with say Bilstein B3 springs and Bilstein B4 shocks, can I use those? They website says they can be used for standard suspension but also for cars lowered by 40mm. As far as I know the sports suspension on the Octavia lowers the ride by 15mm? Can anyone advise? Thanks
  10. Car has done 46k and as far as I know none of the suspension components have ever been replaced. It's on 17" wheels, which I guess doesn't help the ride as I believe the standard size is 16". The tyres are all fairly new and are all at 32psi/2.2bar which is the recommended pressure for them.
  11. Hi guys Picked up my 2013 1.4 TSI Elegance earlier in the week and it turns out it's got sports suspension, which I wasn't aware of at the time. I find the ride very firm and the Mrs isn't a fan at all. I've jacked it up to check the shipping blocks were removed and it looks like they were, so I assume it's just the sports suspension making things firm. Now I don't know the first thing about suspension but having had a read through this forum am I right in thinking I can (get a mechanic to) replace the shocks with something like Bilstein B4s? Is this likely to significantly soften the ride? I'm not fussed about handling, it's just a family car that won't be driven hard. Do I also need to replace the springs or can I get away with just replacing the shocks? Which is it that affects the ride more?
  12. I haven't got a USB socket, I've got the MDI port. Which leads me to another question: do I need the MDI to Apple lightning cable with the dark green rubber to charge and play music from my iPhone 6S? I updated the map data last night following the instructions on the Skoda website, which involved formatting the SD card and unzipping the latest map data onto it; seemed to work okay, although I'm still pretty underwhelmed with the navigation. Because I'm too impatient to wait for my new SD card I've copied the DAB radio image files to CD, so I'll give that a go. It's one of the options when I try to set the image for the presets so hopefully that'll work.
  13. Just ordered one of these based on someone's advice on another thread: https://m.mymemory.co.uk/product?p=36686 Seem cheap and have good reviews. So you can't use the Skoda Nav SD card for DAB logos either? That'll be why it's not working!
  14. Hi guys I've had a search around on the site but can't find an answer the my question: can you add music to the Skoda SD card that has all the nav data on it or do I need to buy a separate one? Also, I've being trying to add DAB logos as suggested on here. I've downloaded the zip files from the VW website and copied the individual files I want to the Skoda SD card but when I plug it back into the SD slot it doesn't seem to recognise any of them when I try and assigned them. Any help much appreciated!
