Got stuck in snow now no power in 4th gear

Featured Replies

This is strange, yesterday I got stuck in the snow and after half an hour of trying to get moving found that I have no power in 4th gear all the other gears are fine, its just 4th. The way i can describe it is with the pedal down it is just sitting bellow 1,000rpm and the car judders like its miss fireing then when i drop into 3rd the power comes back.

Also when I am in 4th and there is no power I press the clutch and the car revs normal its when i let the clutch pedal up the car has no power?

Just wondered if anyone can help me out with this as its a case of going from 3rd to 5th in some cases

Any lights on?

Sounds strange :S

I found that the traction controlis wose than useless when trying to get moving but that obviously effects all gears.

Never heard of that before

From the symptoms you describe, the engine is under load from elsewhere when in fourth gear. I would guess at an internal gearbox fault - broken selector?

How many miles has it done?

1000rpm in 4th, are you perhaps labouring the engine and trying to pull from too low revs? 1000rpm is just above idle and probably not quite enough to be happy trying to increase speed etc.

Thanks guys, If i am in 3rd doing 30mph and go into fourth there is no power just rapid light juddering, It seems a bit better today but still not right, The car has just turned 80,000 miles and there are no lights on the dash.

Thanks again.

I had a similar problem, though not caused by getting stuck in snow in my Fabia VRS.

Apparently something went amiss in the electronic side, and power was dramatically reduced, and car went into limp-home mode as not to do any damage. Maximum 30 mph only possible.

Took it to Skoda Dealer as still under warranty, and within an hour it was up and running.

hi,

Ok, i am not 100% sure, but this could be either mechanical internal fault with gearbox or basic settings on throtlle pedal has been somehow lost.

The best way to find out is to take your skoda to dealer and ask them to perform basic setting on throtlle body/pedal and see what it does.

let us know how you get on!
