Bulb changing issues?

Agerbundsen,

You took my question away! Did you change the daylight running lights while you were at it?

No I did not. The bulbs are rather special and there do not seem to be any upgrade bulbs available. The light seems to be adequate for most people (you cannot see them yourself) but I would rather have them a bit brighter, as you compete for attention with dimmed headights. I actually also think it a mistake that the rear lights are not on at the same tme as the DRL's, as yu also need some attention from behind in a slight haze - withut having to turn on the fogs.

So, while the lid is off, the fogs are really not useful, as the xenons do such a good job. I would have preferred a set of pencil beams instead to supplement the xenons at long range. I might do that with a couple of auxliliaries if I can find a secure way to mount them in front of the upper grille. They do not belong below the license plate.

Do yo have lots of long straits then in Sandved, Denmark? I have had a look on Goggle Maps, Satellite images and it does look as though you do have. It looks a little like parts of East Anglia, particularly the fens. Their are lots of strait roads along the dykes in East Anglia. If so then you will be one of the few that could properly use spot/pencil beams. For most of us however those type of beams would be totally a wast of time and even counter productive because they would wonder about as we negotiating bends on tall our narrow twisting roads. Also if you have little traffic you wont have to keep turning them off. For most people, drive beams are best and for me possibly wide angle.

have you thought what manufacturer and what sort of bulb? You may find that halogen looks rather dim alongside the HID headlamps. It may be that HID auxiliary lamps with spot pencil might be for you.

If you really would like powerful long range lamps that will bring down high altitude aircraft or blind people on the other side of the North Sea then you might like to have a look at these.

their huge but supposedly give incredible light output cutesy of the large reflectors. They are unbreakable polycarbonate so if you run them into something they will just bend back and I think that this version retains the adjustable beam shape. :strong:

I really think that something a bit smaller might do OK. I do not really want to wrinkle the paint on some vehicle in the next county.

HID seems the way to go, but I am not sure if they will handle the frequent on-off duty for normal road work. The smaller 140 mm version with around 10° beam width or similar Hella or Bosch units should be OK. The Light Bar mounting would seem to be the way for the Yeti, as I am not fond of low mounting in front of the intercooler, and the top grille mostly feeds air to the A/C and engine cooler - no big deal.

On curvy roads, the Xenon's sideways move does a very good job out to maybe 120 m or so. I was sceptical at first, but pleasantly surprised.
