Large boot lid quirk

Featured Replies

With the car unlocked, when I press the large boot handle, the brake light on the rear window does not flash, nor does the boot open.

When I close the lid, after a moment, I hear a short whir of a motor and the boot comes ajar a few millimeters.

When the boot is closed, if I put my weight on it so it makes good contact, then the handle on the bottom side of the boot lid, to the right, the brake light will flash, then the handle in the middle will open the large boot lid.

Do I need to take the car in to Skoda to put this right (no car for at least a day) or does someone know an easy fix for this?

Using the central boot handle does not make the brake lights flash, and only opens the small boot lid. Using the right hand boot handle causes the brake lights to flash and then using the central handle enables the full boot opening. This sequence is correct and is covered in the owners manual. It is most important to only gently lower the boot lid for closing, do not slam or push hard and quick, this can damage the locking mechanism. The boot when closed should not rise but stay down compressing the rubber seal. If your bootlid is not fully closing take it to your dealer, there is a recall on some Skoda II's for a boot catch modification yours may be one of these.

Sorry for the confusion Spectrum, at the beginning of my post I should have said 'the right hand boot handle does not make the brake lights to flash'. Looks like I visit the dealer. I'll post back when I get it sorted out.

Took it to the dealer and waited an hour while they fixed it, apparently there was a loose cable inside the housing in the base of the boot, in the middle.

Glad boot sorted out o.k. Just a small point, make sure the rubber boot seal is refitted correctly, ie. over metal edge of trim, mine was not sharp metal edge can be exposed.
