Finish to seams near rear wheels

Featured Replies

Looking under my new FL I noticed, just before the rear wheels near the black plastic, there seems to be hard white wax and paint. This is lumpy in places with little bits of wax and paint seems to be loose, in fact there is a gap in the seals on each side. Anyone else noticed this?

There also appears to be a sort of flap on each side of the car in the center which droops down a bit, not sure what this is for.

Can you take a picture of this, to me it just sounds like like the anti corosion protection. My 2005 is simillar I think.

Yer will try but its a little mucky at the mo, it feels rough and shape sort of thing, the rest of the seals seem smoothish. Will try when its brighter and its been washed. Ta for the reply!

Yea - sorry for not replying - if you take a picture I'll compare it with my (pre FL) Octavia and let you know if it's similar. Probably isn't much different between FL and Pre FL underneath?

Merry christmas in the mean time

I wouldnt be to happy with that......looks like the sealant hasnt knitted together as it should back to the dealers for me, you cant afford to get water ingress around the cills, leads to problems in the future. A bit of window sealant would do I suppose.........but its a manufacturing fault for me why mess about.

Is it just the area where they split into two would you say the issue is? The other side has a gap as well but does not seem so rough.

My FL has the same gap. Paint appears smooth but lots of waxy sealant present.

Before it goes back to dealer, would someone else be able to look at their seals and compare? There must be quite a few FLs knocking about now!

Has it been on a two posta or been jacked up!

Its only been PDI'ed at the supplying dealer. Why?

Has it been on a two posta or been jacked up!

Its in the right area and cauld have been caused at PDI , eather way take it to your dealer and get the body shop to look at it !

Ok,. what should it be like? Should it be smoother then?

Thanks for those that mailed me their pics, it looks like the gap is a little bigger and not so smooth, so its being checked whilst its in for other bits. I also noticed the same gap, halfway down each sill, what is this gap in the sill for??? Any ideas?

Think the subject should refer to 'seams' rather than 'seals' which is a quite different and irrelevant matter in this example.

Drainage apertures for surplus wax perhaps or is the OE jack intended to be inserted there?? Looks quite deliberate though, especially in the lower picture.

Ground has been too wet or snow covered for me to peer at mine.

I had them check it today, they said its fine and the gaps are for water drainage. The lump sealant is prolly where its been applied by hand and a little more has been used. Tried to change the title of the thread but don't have rights. Maybe a mod could do it??

Cheers.

I thought these were perfectly normal, and are to let water out.

Agree, that looks perfectly normal to me too.

THat gap is to let water out of the sills.
