Oil coming off sports air filters? No..thats impossible

Featured Replies

Hi,

i'm considering upgrading my air filter from the bog standard paper one to a k&n. but read conflicting arguments for and against. Alot of people on here have experienced oil leaking out from the filter in particular k&n. Some say this is due to over oiling, but k&n issued this statement on it saying it was ridiculous.

and the video report here

Is there any merit on what they are saying? apparently even over oiling your k&n wont cause any damage to the MAF. So if thats the case what causes the MAF to fail on fabia's?

Are there any better alternatives to the k&n?

Or should i just stick with the paper filter which i change every 6 months anyway?

Stick with OEM paper filter, designed for the vehicle, dealer can't do fob off warranty stories.

Never liked long life filters of any make. They rely on the oil to catch smaller particles, as the actual weave of the filter has larger gaps than a standard filter. Over priced snake oil really.

Just use a standard OEM air filter but the k&n filter should be alright i think it will not damage the MAF but make sure you don't over oil it

My mates had a k&n panel filter in his 05 vrs for the last 33k and he's had no problems at all

Another two mates ran after Market panel filters aswell with no issues. One had a Jetex but wrote off his se and the other one I can't mind what he has

I have a bmc cda on mine and had no issues aswell. Conflicting stories etc and personal choice. But with three mates proven with no issues I didn't hesitate to upgrade mine despite what I read on here

Its more of a case of when you wash and re-oil.. the problem doesn't really arise from when they are pre-oiled and new out the pack its when you clean them and oil it after.. most people usually over oil the filter, and this is the case of it messing with the MAF..
