Straight-forward Ipod into VRs solution?

Featured Replies

Alright all, got an Ipod nano for Christmas with a view to using it in the car to have a nice selection of tunes.

I got one of those cassette adaptors to make it work but it's junk. Next to never works and when it does the sound is dire.

What's the best/easiest way to get a proper Ipod connector in there?

Any links would be appreciated.

Thanks, Sam.

I bought myself an Alpine head unit a few months back for £150.

It allows for direct iPod connection and control through the HU itself.

Try Audio66, they are pretty reasonable.

If you want to keep the existing head unit then google xcarlink or connects2 or dension gateway

This is something I'm looking at myself, I've enquired with Shark about the Denison.

The xcarlink looks the better of the other 2 I think...

I bought an into tape connector and was indeed rubbish, the noise from the tape drowned out the speakers!

HOWEVER... i had bought a cheap one (£2).

I tried an expensive SONY one (£5!!) and it has been superb, no noise, and good sound quality (ie with original speakers etc, sounds just llike cds that are in)

Try get a good one on amazon, saved myself a packet.

Make sure you have the tape playing the right side if you are using a cassette adaptor. It will sound really quiet when playing one way (PLAY REV) but will be fine the other way (PLAY FWD), tap the cassette eject button once to switch sides. I've been using cassette adaptors in mine for the last 2 years with my ipod stuffed in the cubby hole and no complaints, the 2nd one I've had makes virtually no noise in the tape player, was about £4 from some ebay Hong Kong company.

I've got an Alpine CDE-9880R fitted in mine, with the iPod and USB cables routed into the glovebox.

Head unit has full iPod control, and more importantly it's green! Excellent bit of kit.
