Anyway back to topic, some ****er :'( drove past my car and smashed the drivers side door mirror and decided to take off without telling me, nice xmas present!!

Anyway upon inspection it seems ive been quite lucky in that the motor/heater etc is still working and it looks that i will get away with replacing the glass and outer cover. My question is does anyone know where i can get hold of these parts, other than trying to find one at a scrap yard, and i presume i will need them spraying? Its a 07 Octavia VRS tdi by the way, so I would presume the petrol version will also be exactly the same though?

They will be the same part, the mirror glass can be obtained from a skoda dealership for around £40-£45. Im uncertain about the mirror cover, but you should be able to obtain a primered one thats ready for paint. They may even do painted ones, but im not certain on that.

I wouldn't recommend a cheap mirror glass replacement off of ebay, i bought one and found the glass to vibrate after a while. Then the cold spell finished it off on thursday evening and the glue gave way with the extreme cold. Its now taped to its backing whilst i find a more permanent way of attatching it.

Some toad did the same to me, but it's alright as I'll catch up with them in the next life. They just took the cover and indicator off mine, which with painting at a local sprayer cost me about £85 all in. Given it was £35 for painting (dealer wanted £50+VAT and would probably just send it to the same place), I think the indicator and cover (same as a VW Polo last model which might be cheaper) were about £21 + VAT each.

Similar thing happened to a ford focus i had a couple of years ago, told my mate about it (complete retard) thought nothing more of it. got a knock on the door the next day and he'd got a matching broken off wing mirror complete with glass. Didn't tell me where he'd got it from but i suspect there was someones car missing one, needless to say I was a little bit ****ed off

My dealer did me a cover painted up and fitted for about £40 or so - knocked it off reversing out of the garage and then reversed over it :'(
