Hi ppl, recently had the ASR and ABS come on. Now i've found out that i've got a Intermittent nearside rear wheel sensor.

The funny thing is, the system works upto 15mph. Then throws the warnings up anything after that, then shuts the ASR and ABS down.

I did slide on ice and bopped the nearside into the curb at low speeds i may add, which did sort the problem out for a day.

Until i had some trouble getting out of a snow covered carpark with alot of wheelspinning i managed to get out of the car park. But then the light came on again after.

So after hearing Damo's warnings coming up, im now wondering if my speed sensor is at fault.

I'm interested in peoples experiences of that have encountered this problem, so if people could fill in the poll it would be mucho appreciated.

Many Thanks

Dan

It's knackered! ;)

15mph is roughly when it kicks in and realises the discrepancy. :) Eventually it will just completely die and will be permanent. New speed sensor should fix it.

Thanks for that matey.

I was just wondering though, as damo found out that his was caused by a duff wheel bearing.

Sliding the nearside against the curb in the snow made me think, that it could be the wheel bearing on mine also? (wheel moving and the sensor doesn't line up with the splines correctly)

The cars got 140k on the clocks now.

Typical, ordered a new wheel speed sensor and the bloody thing has started working again now :S

Pretty sure VCDS will show the fault.

It has done, by showing the Speed sensor at fault. But if theres anything mechanical is at fault like damo's car did. Then movement around the sensor would cause a fault.

I'd expect if the wheel bearing was the problem you'd be able to feel the play in it.

:'( Mines on all the time !

I've fitted a new ABS sensor to the car and the light has stayed out so far, the plastic tip of the sensor was slightly scored. I presume from a piece of rust falling off of the disc edge or something else with loose scale. I cleaned the surface of the hub face for any loose metal with a screw driver.

I didn't have the tool for the hub bolt, so i resulted to having to remove the calliper and get in with a screw driver and pry it outwards and then wriggle it out from the back of the hub (after removing the retaining bolt)

So far so good, a new set of pads on the front. Aswell as front and rear drop links and it feels pretty tought now :)

Hopefully should sail through its MOT now, just needs a set of vredsteins on the back and the camber adjusting now :)
