17705 is a pain in the ass to sort out as it can be any number of things, first off I would do the cheap things like cleaning the throttle body and checking all the big and little hoses around the engine and turbo system for splits and move on from there. If you do a search on here for 17705 fault code it will bring up lots of threads.

17704 is usually the coolant temperature sensor, but can also be the thermostat playing up. The sensor is located on the right hand side of the engine as you look at it and plugs in between the engine block and one of the coolant hoses. You will need to remove both the plastic engine covers to access it. Check that the multiplug to it is plugged in properly and that the wiring looks alright, if both those things are ok then it probably needs to be replaced, you need to replace the O ring seal at the same time.

The MAF fault code could just be a dirty MAF, it's the bit between the air box and the hoses going to the turbo, take it off and clean it with Carb cleaner, if you are still having problems with it then try running the car with it unplugged and if the car runs better then you need to replace the MAF itself

Happy New Year!

hi , 17705 is a very common one , ive had it and took me ages to sort it out , plus it can cost alot to sort to . Heres my story to the code hope it helps http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/140568-ive-cured-the-17705-etc-codes/page__p__1760027__hl__ive%20cured__fromsearch__1entry1760027

the 17704 is a plug in the cooling system which is easy fixed . get the un-graded one which is a green one

and the 16486 i think will be the MAF sensor . Best way to see if it is , is to unplug the MAF sensor and drive it , but with you having the 17705 code you might not notice it , also by un-pluging it , it will turn the traction control light on .

if im wrong by what i said , im sorry so please correct me if i am .

hope this helps

That's the one and at a good price. Their application is a bit misleading as the Octavia from 1997 to 2001 has a different plug to that one.

av bought one.....so i hope that helps with my probs............thanks for the help guys

i dont think the TPS will cure car feeling abit slow some times....and my car back fired .

sounds like the MAF sensor could be on the way out , if the car is pulling and stoping like your jabing the brake with your other foot .

to be honest you cant tell if the throttle body needs changing its just a chance it will cure the 17705 code , which in my luck it did . if you follow my guide and it doesnt sort it then it will be the throttle body .

normaly 90% of the time the 17705 code is a new throttle body or a second hand one if you trust the person your getting it off .

Not stricly true, It's usually a boost leak, very few people with this problem on the site have changed a TB too cure it.

It does seem too be caused by re-mapping some times, but a lot of people just live with it as it's a bit of mystery as too why it happens
