Octy II - replacement demister flap motor

Featured Replies

Having issues with the car windows not demisting correctly when the weather is cold outside, 2 degress or less. The car is dry when I get in but then soon mists up. Having played with many different settings on the climate and driving with the window open a fraction I decided to contact the dealer.

Thoughts from me were no leaks or water in the car that I could see, perhaps pollen filter or moisture coming from the condenser etc. Diagnostics have shown a fault with one of the motors that adjusts the flaps when demisitng so there is a lack of sufficient air flow being produced (windscreen and all side windows get very wet).

Part is on order and when it arrives the car is going to be booked in for fitting, lets hope the dash wont have to come out?!!!!! :'(

Any other thoughts from similar problems anyone before any drastic action could be taken - hopefully Mr Dealer Technician has checked everything?!

Cheers

Ryan

Hi

Had this problem myself

Exact same fault with one of the climate control actuating motors (vent control) so was replaced, think it was about £100 all in?

Misting stopped straight away....

Hope that helps

Thanks for letting me know. Do you know how much work is related to this? It would be done under warranty for me but I dont want the dashboard out as it will be bound to never go back in the same again and have some creaks after.

I will be asking them if they checked all washer jet hoses, pollen filter housing etc for an leaks first. I placed the car in my garage and run my dehumidifier inside the car for 14 hours and it only pulled out 150ml of water so the car is dry in my opinion? Running it in my flat for that long would pull out a few litres!

Did your problem only happen when the outside temp was very low? I found that sometimes is clears ok or even doesnt mist up but them sometimes it does and it takes forever to clear as the windows are so wet, including the rear side windows, which just dont clear.

My dealer tells me it's a dash full out job. Hence I've decided to live with it (my fault is the servo motors 'tutting').

Hi

Don't think they did take the dash out, the motor that was faulty I think could be accessed either via the glovebox or the centre console...sorry not really sure, although I am pretty sure he said there are 7 of them?

Damp conditons it got worse and to be honest really dangerous, couple of times the whole car misted up and I couldn't see anything at all, hence got it sorted...

Hope that helps

Cheers

Thanks thinline. do you have no issues now or does the car still mist up but then clear easy now as the motor is fixed? or do you have no misting issues?

i have run a dehumidifier in the car for 14 hours and it only pulled out 150ml of water so dont think thats very much. not driven the car to test it since due to the snow/ice, so will have to see what its like now.

Spoken to the dealer and they have the parts in ready to do this. They doubt the whole dash will needed, just glove box and maybe some of the center console. I will be asking many questions before they go ahead but that are saying the motor fault is only moving the flap to 60 degrees or something which is restriciting the air flow quite a lot and not clearing the windows.

thanks Mike but I havent noticed any clicking noise?

any more info you can provide would be useful as they have only diagnosed this via testing the system/motors by plugging in their computer.

Hi

Yes once done then perfect. Had other issues down the line but not related to this.

Also had the clicking noise, spoke to the dealer about (Progress Letchworth, whom I would recommend) and they advised it was software related and quite normal for them to click. They did not have a fix at the time and I just left it to be honest.

Got a updated octavia now, gone from a 2004 (54) Oct 2 to a vRS 2007, and must say the whole climate control system seems a lot better.
