500+ round trip to north-west Wales in the VRS

Featured Replies

Well just got back from a couple of days away near Snowdonia to bring in the new year!

I have to say i m massively suprised by the VRS over the course of the two fairly long journeys. It took about 6 hours there and 6 hours back and not once did i hear a complaint about uncomfy seats or the like. It returned a very respectable 49.9 mpg, over A and B roads and ofcourse good old motorways. I love the fact the Fabia really does keep up with the big boys on the motorway, no need to change gear, put your foot down and it's effortless!

The main reason for this post is because on the way there i went over Snowdonia national park, which involved crossing at high altitude, some very badly snow covered B roads. It was dreadful, visibility was 20ft infront of you, there was no clear road, just white!! It was like driving on an ice rink. When we came down the other side, it appeared the road was infact closed and for bloody good reason!! Snow drifts arent fun! 4x4 of all descriptions were turning around and finding an alternative route. What made me think though was all the posts on here about 'oh the VRS is crap in the snow/ice' Rubbish!! I can say hand on heart it must be the driver. My car held up fine and luckily didnt slide off the road and was controlable. Putting the power down was not a problem, leave it in 3rd at idle revs and it plugged along nicely.

All in all my love affair for this little skip with wheels is getting deeper and deeper!

Awesome little car and i think i ll be keeping it for a while to come!

Happy new year

Nice one! Not all drivers need 4X4 to survive
