Guess what I found when changing the main beam lamps?

Featured Replies

I finally got around to changing the main beam lamps for Philips Blue Vision to provide a better match with the Xenons...

Anyway them came with the free W5W side lights so these had to be fitted too (to be honest the existing sidelights looked cheap and yellow alongside the Xenons), so you can imagine my shock when I finally removed the first sidelight I discovered that Skoda had fitted Osram Cool Blue W5W in the factory!

The Philips ones I had looked a deeper shade of blue so I ended up fitting them - The result is disapointing as the side lights still look cheaper and yellow, but does as yellow as they did....

I figured you'd found gold, an ancient hebrew manuscript or a dead mouse or something. You really shouldn't build up the anticipation in the titles ike that .... I'm off back to bed :smirk: Try some ice blue LEDs. They're white in fact and hardly expensive.

How do you get the sidelight bulbs out?

I did try to fit the free bulbs that came with uprated headlight bulbs, but gave up after not finding anything to get the old bulbs out....

I thought there was going to be something like a small rodent living in your light fitting judging by the thread title :giggle:

The sidelight bulbs are in a black plastic socket that is secured with 2 plastic clips, a long pair of needle nose pliers usually does the trick, they are still a bit of a bugger to get out and perseverance is the key.

LEDs sidelights are ok if you fit a shunt resistor in parallel to the LED otherwise the OBC will detect a problem and turn it off. If you decide to fit some avoid the cheap nasty ones as they just won't last, they will flicker and pop in no time.

Remove head lamp altogether, to remove side lights, use a long thin flat screwdriver, on the bulb holder there are 2 clips that need to be pressed in, using the screwdriver press 1 of the clips and at the same time pull the wires tight then try and press the 2nd one in and they should release, I use my extra long fishing hook removal clamps the ones for removing hooks from pike
