A few questions...

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I have a few questions which I know some of you will know the answers too. Im looking to order a 1.8TSi Elegance with options...

Can you specify MDI as a music connection method? I thought you could but cant find it mentioned in the brochure. I'd really like to hook up my portable hard drive with my MP3 collection. Octavia and Superb have this option available as far as I recall.

What does the optional three spoke leather wheel give you? Im guessing its purely cosmetic compared to the standard four spoke one as they both seem to offer music and telephony controls? Then again, I dont think many manufacturers offer different styles of wheel that have the same functions on them??

The bi xenon lights have 'dynamic angle control' - is this simply an AFS type system that aims the beam into corners, related to steering wheel input?

Also, does the Yeti boast the cornering fog light function of the Superb 2 and similar?

Thanks in advance, :)

Lee

The Bi-Xenons turn into the corner above 10kph. Can't remember the actual amounts but they differ slightly depending if they are on the inside or outside of the turn. It works really well on bendy roads. Lights are very good - highish mounting upsets a few people but if they keep flashing I flash mine once and burn their retinas out which shuts them up...

There is no 'beam control' depending on speed or driving conditions which I think the Superb has.

The cornering fogs work below 40kph dependent on steering wheel angle and/or indicator use. Again works much better than I thought it would. Probably annoying to on coming traffic as well. :giggle:

More info in the Yeti Owners Manual available on-line at:

I think "Dynamic Angle Control" is Skoda-speak for self-levelling, which is a legal requirement for Xenons anyway. And I agree with aerofurb that the cornering function is excellent.

I don't believe the 3-spoke steering wheel offers any extra functionality over the 4-spoke in the Elegance.

Not sure about the MDI option, it is obviously available in some markets. However the standard Bolero radio will accept SD cards up to 32GB which by my reckoning is several hundred CDs worth.

So far I have only gotten the Columbus to accept 2 GB SD cards with only MP3 data on them. On the VAG nav forum, it appears they will accept up to 32 GB and should also accept WMA files, but I have had no luck with WMA or 2 GB SD cards. It may relate to data protection on the WMA files that Windodws add as a standard, but I have not gotten any further with this. The harddisc accepts up to around 20 GB of music - more than I have in the whole collection.

Regarding MDI, I suggest you fire off a message to Skoda UK here: http://www.skoda.co.uk/aboutskoda/contactus.aspx

There are a few people who want to know the answer to this. Explain to them that it is definitely available on the Yeti in other European countries. They're usually quite good at replying so let us know what they say!

Here's what I got:

'Having discussed the options for the Yeti with our Marketing Department, I have been advised that the Yeti is not available with

Mobile Device Interface for use with your iPod or MP3 player.

There is an Auxiliary socket in the Yeti, which enables you to listen to your MP3 player through the vehicle speakers, however

it is not possible for you to operate the device through the Multi-Function Display.

I am sorry that this is not the response you were hoping for. I trust this answers your enquiry and I would like to thank you

for taking the time to contact Skoda UK Customer Services.'

Thanks for posting the reply. :)

Shame its not available. Im really wondering now if the Yeti wont be getting an update in the coming months - bringing it inline with the Superb II options maybe?

The whole point is that it is available! It's just Skoda UK haven't taken the necessary steps for it to be able to be specced on UK cars.

Sorry, thats what I meant; that its not available to this market. :(

I bet that changes though, later down the line!

The latest Columbus units with the voice funtion seem to work with cards up to 32gb.

Thats good to know James, thanks.

Oh, and thanks for getting me the car quote through so quickly also! :)

No Problem.

Whilst I can't find any mention in the Yeti brochure of the Columbus unit being able to handle 32gb cards but it does quite clearly say that it can in the Superb brochure, so I'd presume they are the same unit?

Ah, now that could mean its different knowing Skoda! The Octavia and Superb have slightly different models/specs iirc.

Can anyone else confirm that the Yeti supplied Columbus can accept 32gb cards?

Thanks,

Lee

Probably when Skoda UK get their asses into gear!

I won't be in the market for a new car until the end of the year at the earliest so hopefully they'll have sorted this out by then. Otherwise it will be SD cards, or a new Fabia RS :D

I've been using 2Gb SD cards to load the music into my Columbus as that was what I had. Certainly worked fine with those and it's great not having to carry a load of CDs rattling around in the glove box. Slight confession, I don't even own an iPod - whatever they are.... ;)
