Tyre Repair and MOT

Featured Replies

Hi guys

My MK2 Octy is due it's first MOT at the end of the month but I'm a bit concerned about one of the tyres. A few months back I got a slow puncture and the AA man plugged the hole. I was just wondering if this would count as an MOT failure and will i have to buy 2 new tyres? Like i said, it was a few months back now and I've had no problems since even though Mr AA did tell me it should only be temporary.

Thanks in advance

:) A puncture repair is not a reason for MOT failure.

How did the AA man plug the hole?

If he took the tyre off and repaired it from the inside properly then it will probably be a proper repair and fine.

If he just injected some gunk into the tyre, then it is not a permanent repair and you should get the tyre repaired properly at a tyre depot for your own safety.

As above a proper repair is fine for an MOT, however since the AA man said it was only a temporary repair, I would suggest it was the second type.

If you go to a tyre place, they can wash the gunk off with soapy water and do a proper repair, assuming the damage is in the centre of the tyre and it should cost no more than £15 and probably closer to £10.
