a year of vRS ownership

Featured Replies

hi

hope you're all fairing well.

just thought i'd drop a quick post as a year of ownership has passed. 2009 was a blur. stressful, hectic, unemployed, employed etc etc...

my vRS has been bloody fantastic. i haven't posted much as i didn't feel the need, but i can't fault my car at all. it's been totally reliable and has just had an 80k service. some bits needed sorting but simpsons at colne really sorted me out well.

i'd planned all sorts of mods. circumstances changed all of that. diesel, oil, screen wash and magic trees are the only things i've put in. fingers crossed 2010 will be trouble free too.

i've used briskoda for reasearch and look forward to doing so in the future, so thank you to all of you who know your stuff.

here's to my vRS and yours too. the best little car i've ever owned!

wayne

Nice to see a positive post about a car that has been a good little boy. :D Same here, had the VRS SE 14 months, it's been brilliant. Best car I have ever owned, and I have a had a lot of cars over the past 35 years. :dull:

Good old Skoda :)

My year with my Fabia VRS has been;

1. New CD multichanger

2. New turbo

3. New rear suspension

3. New rear washer jet motor

4. New rear washer pipes

5. Body work to remove dent on rear O/S door (from someone opening their door into mine)

6. New front O/S bearing

7. Front O/S brake caliper needing copper grease on (as the Skoda garage I got it from had done a crap job on the brakes)

8. New rear brakes (6 months ago)

9. New rear brakes (1 week ago due to the garage that did them first time messing up, must say this was a non Skoda garage)

10. New rear O/S caliper (again due to the cowboys that did the rear brakes 6 months ago making a mess of things)

11. 4x new tyre (still to be bought but will be purchased in the next few days)

12. New head gasket

13. numerous other little bits and pieces which includes the 'effing' rear washer pipe popping off all the time.

I must say some of this was covered on the warranty (or the other guy paying for the dent), but my pockets are much lighter now than this time last year.

I must also add the car is a blast to drive which is why I keep it, but if anything else goes it will have to be traded in, problem is there is no other car I want within my budget so would go for a newer VRS SE as I believe my car is a 'lemon' rather than the brand being rubbish.

Rant over, thank you.

I sympathise but that whole list/cost can't all be attributed to any 'lemon-ness'!

Simpson Colne eh. you must be near me.

True, tyres, head gasket are just wear and tear, bad brake fitting is the fault of the garage that did it, but the turbo, cd multichanger, back suspension etc, well I wouldn't expect them to just die as they did.

I agree, does sound a bit of a lemon unfortunately. Head gasket very unusual as well BTW. Speaks volumes for the car that you have stuck with it though. I guess fun factor can carry a fairly high price and still win the day. :D

Sorry, I sort of hijacked your thread with my tales of woe!

Also forgot to list the rear O/S ABS sensor I had to have replaced last week too.

I'm hoping with all that has been replaced it must now almost be like new and nothing else can go wrong.

Exactly, I still love the car despite all the issues, and as I said I would only trade it in for a newer VRS. I've had much quicker, flasher cars in the past but for driving fun the VRS is superb, except for in this ruddy snow, just want to put the juice pedal down a bit but it just spins up! ;)

I've had my car just over a year now too - bought last December.

Done this so far:-

New H/U

Rear ARB

All bushes replaced and uprated

Upper front strut brace

TT Comps & new tyres

Jetex exhaust

PD160 inlet

New Clutch & SMF

A Couple of oil changes

What's wrong with it:-

A/c doesnt work

All 4 doors leak

All the discs and pads need changed

Interior is bloody aweful to clean - and is dirty in 10 minutes

What I love:-

MPG

5drs

Skoda badge irritates people!

Mid-range punch

Best car I ever bought - even with the annoying problems!

I think we should all name our cars "Oliver"

:D

I know I no longer have a vRS, and I replaced it with the fiat , but my last year...er ...... gear linkages freezing below -5 celcius.... thats it! no other problems at all..... 90,500 miles now
