Oil/Service Warning

Featured Replies

I had my Fabia VrS (06 plate) serviced last June and have only done 3000 miles since. The spanner service symbol has started coming on with 'Oil' underneath. I have checked the oil and it is right to the max. Is this something I should worry about??

no, it's just telling you that it's due a service

Thanks, but why should it do that after only 5 moths/3,000 miles?

Could be a couple of things. Sometimes dealers forget to reset BOTH service schedules when doing a full service. This can lead to oil service coming up too early. Second one I am not 100% sure about, but some Skoda cars have an oil condition sensor in the sump. If it detects too much oil dilution with petrol/diesel it will trigger an oil change warning.

It may do this after 5 moths as you say, or even 5 months for those of us using a calendar :giggle:

I think it's only cars that can be put onto the long life servicing that have this - the Fabia vRS isn't one of them.

I had this appear half way between the usual 10k service interval and was told there are other factors beside mileage such as number of starts or journey time - stuff like that. AFAIK there is no sensor on a Fabia to detect oil quality so given it was serviced only 3000 miles ago I would just reset the spanner. I would check this but to do it manually hold down the trip reset button (beneath the speedo) and switch the ignition on. let go and hold down again for 10 seconds and you should see some -------- on the display. If you have the oil and the INSP on your display you'll have to repeat this process again to reset both service intervals.

John

to the OP, it tells you what the symbol means and how to reset it in the vehicle handbook, which should of been the first place to check, before asking the question on here, a question that has been asked soooooo many times it is unreal :wonder:

I think your right, can't recall seeing one last time I was under the car. Must have been thinking about the Polo which was sold 14 months ago

Thank yo sooo much for your help - particularly geordie_21 - spot on, problem solved. Sorry if I annoyed you ric04VRs by asking a stupid question but I bought the car 2nd hand and there was no user manual, but, hey ...
