loss of power

Featured Replies

Stuck in a traffic jam in the snow yesterday and the engine started reving whilst idling, the engine management light came on and then i lost power and couldn't rev above 4000 or go more than 20 mph. turned engine off and left it for half an hour then got power back but light was still on. an hour later the same problem solved in the same way. it happened four or five times before i got home.

i presume i need to take it to a garage so they can get the fault code but anyone anu idea what it might be?

Sounds like limp mode, you will need to get the codes checked,

And welcome :)

+1 for a code scan. Also helps to post car model/petrol/diesel.

yh my 1.4 strated reving itself but no lights came on and when i held it on throttle a bit it stoped no idea what it is

just worked out how to do signature. what's limp mode?

just worked out how to do signature. what's limp mode?

Limp mode is when the car detects a fault, and limits the power to prevent engine damage. Usually happens when one of the various sensors fail, and the ECU substitutes a fixed value. For example if the air intake temp sensor fails, the ECU will use 20c even if it's -10c real outside temp.

Really, without a code scan, it's all guess work.

This happened to my Fabia VRS after I had it about 18 months, turned out that some pipe came off and car went into limp mode.----- Would only go about 30mph until Skoda dealer sorted it out.------

It was just a matter of minutes at Skoda Dealers and I was on my way.---- In your case a quick trip to Skoda for a readout would be the quickest route for correction of fault.

Well we limped to the garage going a max of 5 mph although the previous day it had done a short trip with full power. Garage has just said there are two fault codes - manifold pressure sensor and throttle body. he's going to sort the first and then see if we are still getting a code for the throttle body. reading the posts on this site some people have said just cleaning the throttle body only worked for a short time, others that replacing it didn't sort the problem. any advice?

Garage replaced sensor and adjusted throttle body and got rid of those codes. It ran ok for an hour then same problem reoccurred. fault code P0170 fuel trim, bank 1 malfunction. anyone had similar problem or any advice?
