Major Service on Octavia VRS TFSI

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

Got a major service coming up in a couple of months and I'm wondering what to budget for, getting it done at a main dealer.

I've always serviced my own cars, but to be honest I don't have the time or patience to faf around anymore, plus I want the book stamping properly. That does mean that I have no idea on cost though!

It's on variable servicing, but I plan to change the oil myself in-between (and have done so far once).

It's the car's second service, so it will need oil, oil filter, plugs, brake fluid, and air filter I presume (even though I only changed the oil 4 months ago :)).

Thanks,

Andrew

What do YOU call a major service?

My last 40K service was a reasonable cost....

Do you need the cam belt changing?

I'd call a major service everything that it states needs doing in the Octavia service book at 2nd variable service time.

Looking at the manual, that's (just taking the major bits):

Brake fluid change (as this is overdue at over 2 years - it may have been changed by the previous owner but I have no documentation to prove that)

Oil change with appropriate VW approved long-life oil

Replace oil filter

Reset of service interval display

Replace fuel filter

Check brake pads and discs, replace if necessary

Inspect ECU for fault codes

Replace pollen filter

Inspect cambelt

Spark plug change

+ a lot of visual checking/inspection

It doesn't list air filter until 90,000 kilometers or 6 years, so I'd probably change that myself as that interval seems excessive, and I can't imagine the air filter is that hard to change.

It's another 9 months/12,000 miles before it needs the cambelt (going on the 4 years/40k interval which seems to be what people say on here).

My 40K service was about £250 at a main dealer and included an air filter change :)

Cheers thats about what I was expecting, hoping it's not going to be over £300. Did that include brake fluid?

Are you sure the second variable is actually a "major service"?

My Octy vRS is on variable service.

It had it's first ever service at 14,800 miles before I purchased it.

It had its second service at 30,000 miles - this didn't cost too much because it doesn't include thigs like plugs.

I'm now closing in on my 3rd variable (currently have almost 42,000 miles on the clock and expect to be flagged at around 45,000).

It is this third service that includes plugs and the like and I've been quoted around £300+vat.

I paid about half that for my second variable.

With regards cambelt - I was told 60k miles before they advise that needs replacing when I spoke to my local main dealer.

I recently paid 154 for a first variable service on a 1.9 TDI at Hobin's of Salford.

There was an additional 50 for the brake fluid and I was quoted 34 for a pollen filter.

TBH I skipped the pollen filter and changed it myself. Fuel, Pollen and Air filter cost me 40 at EuroParts.

I just had my 3rd variable at 51k miles and got the cambelt changed aswell.

Basically they did a 60k service and changed the cam belt put my DS2500's on all for £650

That was a Mitchell Skoda in Cheshire
