Check brake pads warning on Maxidot display?

Featured Replies

Today the check brake pads warning on the Maxidot display (55 plate 2.5 TDi Elegance) has come on for a few seconds about 4 times when braking. Last week the car was serviced by Skoda agent and the brake fluid was changed so I'm reckoning that any worn brake pads would have been spotted. I'm wondering whether this is a random fault caused by the cold/salt/moisture in the brakes? The brakes work fine and there's no obvious faults/noises/pulling to one side when braking etc... Any thoughts on this please?

hi...how many miles has your superb done? and are they on the same pads? Its possible that the pads have reached their maximum service life, or it could be a short in the wiring.

I'm thinking that any good dealer or service agent would have taken a wheel off and visually inspected the brake pads.....after all if the wheel and brake assemblies are caked in black dust then accurate inspection is required.....peering through the wheel isnt good enough in my opinion, as its easy to mistake the pad itself as thickness for the friction material...meaning your pads deffinitely need changing sooner than later.

I'm going to call the dealer and ask. As I said above last week was a major service and they bled the brakes. I specifically asked about the front pads (the back were changed 1 year ago). But I forgot to aske before I drove away if they definitely checked them. Cheers.

Update- The pads had about 4mm of material left on them but the wire that is embedded into the pad material had frayed and snapped off, thus raising the warning light. Pads have been changed and now all is fine again.
