Help! New owner with a brake noise problem

Featured Replies

Just got my Fabia Classic 1.2 at the end of August - seemed ok but now can hear a hissing noise from the brake pedal when I depress it. Had not noticed it before cos I usually have the radio on! Phoned dealer, lady in service dept said "its ok - thats the servo". It makes the noise when I depress brake pedal even when engine is off. Took it to dealer this Wednesday afternoon and was told that on some Fabias you hear this noise, on some you don't - you're lucky or unlucky! Please - someone, anyone reassure me - my brother-in-law is a know it all and says there must be something wrong and that the garage is conning me!

Welcome to Briskoda, moysie. Hearing the brake servo working wouldn't bother me provided braking was OK. I would stop worrying and enjoy your car. :D

Thanks Denis - brakes do appear to be working ok - probably I'm slightly paranoid as before getting the Fabia I had a nightmare time with a Renault Megane - everything, and I mean everything went wrong -

Is it a sort of whooshing noise if you pump the pedal? If so its normal and nowt to worry about.

Yes - its sounds like an air rush sound - just found it a bit disconcerting when I first heard it - it happens when I apply the brakes and also as said before when I press the brake pedal when engine off - sounds like I'm being a bit hypersensitive about all the new sounds around me! Thanks for your help and reassurance - I think I'm really going to enjoy being part of Briskoda!
