Thermostat housing - difficult to replace?

Featured Replies

Anyone out there tried to replace the thermostat housing on a 1.6 Felicia (AEE)? You know - the big plastic thing that all the pipes come out of - oem code 032121111N. Having replaced the thermostat several times, I've worn the thread in the holes used to hold the thermostat flange in place, so I may have to replace the whole lot, unless anyone has any other suggestions.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone's done it before, and if it's a tricky job.

quite easy mate just remembet to remove the big C clip that goes thru it to hold the lower coolant pipe (plastic) ti the housing at the back, it can be a pain to get it out sometimes , apart from that 3 bolts and a a few hose clips make sure the head is nice and clean where the Oring sits

Hey thanks. I'm not quite so scared of replacing it now. Bloody hell - felicia 2.0 16valve? Didn't realise that was possible...

edit: just noticed the engine in this pic has the thermostat housing from an automatic polo, the extra pipes not labelled are for the gearbox oil cooler and these wont be on your thermostat housing, but other than that everything else is the same

A: expansion tank top

B: radiator top

C: Radiator Bottom

D: expansion tank bottom

E: heater send

F: heater return

you have a plastic pipe that comes up from the water pump, and as jimbo has said above, there is a little plastic retaining clip you need to pull out that holds the pipe into the thermostat housing... i've found that you can normally lever it out with a flat bladed screwdriver quite easily, but getting it back in is the fiddly bit!!
