Gearbox oil change on a 1.4MPi

Featured Replies

One of my work mates has an X reg 1.4MPi which he says it is not possible to change the oil in the gearbox. Given the car is based on some quite old technology, I am surprised if this is really the case. Can anyone confirm either way.

Thanks,

Matt

page 1A 12 of the Skada Haynes manual (isbn 1-84425-376-7) says

"1.2 litre engines and 1.4 litre DOHC engines (02R transmission) - the filler/level plug is situated on the rear, inner face of the transmission, above the engine rear mounting/torque line

1.4 litre OHV engines (002 transmission) - the filler/level plug is situated on the front left hand end of the transmission."

recommended oil is: Skoda G50 synthetic gear oil, viscosity SAE 75W/90

however..,. the manual does not suggest that a gear box oil change is part of the service, it only talks about 'checking the transmission oil level'.

section 7A 2 (1.4 OHC) suggests that all gearboxes fitted to the fabia can be drained, during the removal/overhaul of a gearbox it says, I quote "position a suitable container beneath the transmission, the unscrew the drain plug and drain the transmission oil"

it is confusing to say the least that it is neglected completely in the 1.4 OHC servicing schedule!

Gearbox is Volkswagen (hence reverse position top left), 1.4 mpi 8v is based on an older Skoda engine.
