Two questions - water in well & alarm isolation

Featured Replies

Tonight I discovered that I had 2-3 inches of water (had been ice !) in the spare wheel well. I had convinced myself that the misting problem (which has been ongoing for the last 2yrs + & had not been resolved despite numerous visits to the dealer) was entirely due to an issue with the operation of the rear wash wipe - when I used it, the car misted up for ages afterwards & was always chronic the next morning. Days of not using it = no problems at all. I am guessing I must have a perforated pipe or bad connection somewhere. As I mopped up the water in the well, I tried to see it's route of entry, but there was nothing obvious. It's going back into the dealers for further investigation on this next week - so I am not going to start tinkering (I've only one months waranty left).

I am not convinced that the wash wipe is the only issue now - but where else can it be coming from? The boot carpet is bone dry - am I right in thinking that there are some form of bungs in the boot - any issue with leakage thro' these? (it was dark as I mopped up). We have had a fair bit of rain over the last couple of days & I finally got the chance to wash the car (but only by a piddly hose as my powerwasher gun was spewing water out & therefore there was no pressure - guess what I'll be buying now !) - but the water was there before I did that.

On another seperate matter - am I right in thinking I can isolate the alarm if I am leaving someone/something in the car but want to lock it? I remember I could do this on my wife's old Bora.

I think you will find this is a know fault with a loose connection somewhere in the boot area behind the left side pannels. A search will find plenty of refernces and information on how to fix.

E.g. My link

I think you can turn off the internal alarm sensors with the use of the button on the right side B post (nest to drivers seat)

The washer issue - check the l/h side of the boot behind the CD changer. Known to leak from there

Alarm - look for, and press button on B pillar next to seat.

Thanks for those replies - I'll check out the alarm isolation button (presumably it resets again & needs to be pushed each time you want to isolate?) - but as for the leak, I am going to leave the dealer to fix it (hopefully!) - the wash wipe does work, but some of the water must be exiting into the boot somehow - the wash wipe is definitely the main (& maybe only) source???
