Focus ST intercooler

Featured Replies

righty o ive had a search for this but nothing really answers what im asking.

im looking into getting a St intercooler

1. how difficult to fit or any advice on where to get fitted( losing a foglight isnt a major problem as im thinking of having some smoooothing done)

2. what kind of benifit would i see from it with a pd160 intake and a remap.

cheers all

and your welcome to kill a cat or 2 again if theres already a thread for this.

there shouldn't be a problem fitting it, the difficulty might be in getting the pipework and relevant fittings to go in aswell

front bumper off, and a bit of messing about me thinks

Can't advise on fitment but early ST intercoolers were not particularly good , so much so that Ford fitted later 2006 cars with a bigger intercooler. If you are buying a secondhand OEM Ford item, then make sure it's a later one, which IIRC had 11 fins not 6.

i have a ST cooler from a 2008 model so i shouldnt have any troubles....what kind of benifits would i see?

and anywhere that would fit it? preferably in wales but id travel to bristol ect...

I've Pm'd you mate

cant see there being much benefit without a bigger turbo..

If it's mapped accordingly you should be able to hold boost longer. In theory.

Having spoke to a few people here at a few mates about this I've decided to go with this and a remap along with the pd160 intake I'm hoping for the 190(ish) mark Ill be happy with that as anything above that and it becomes very costly.bigger turbo isn't really in my budget lol.

After coming from a nippy clio sport 130bhp just don't excite me anymore :(

Without a bigger turbo and possibly also bigger injectors, you're not going to achieve anything more than about 175bhp from a trustworthy remap. Maybe knocking on 180 if you're lucky, but realistically the intake and the intercooler will do little if anything to increase that. That's still an extra 35% power 'for nothing', so don't knock it! Unfortunately, you'll need to do alot more than just tune the engine of a Fabia vRS for it to ever match a SportClio for 'fun', so I think you need to accept the other things it has going for it or have deep pockets!

Seriously, you really should think very carefully about getting work done by anyone promising more than 175bhp from a remap, as bits will start breaking fairly quickly if you're getting that much power just from upping the boost and fuelling. There are plenty of threads on here if you look...

And, of course, you should clear it with your insurer unless you want to hand them grounds to reject your claim in the event of a crash!

Thanks for the replys firstly. I understand it'll never be as fun as the clio was due to it just being a go kart with a massive lump. I just fancy a little more grunt. If 180 is all ill get then 180 is what ill deal with. I figured that the intercooler would be there for future tuning if ever wanted but I can't see me spending major bucks on it when I could have just bought a faster car to start with.ill let you all know once I've done what I have planned. I've got coillies on the way and a few other bits.

Cheers

Andrew

imo isnt worth the hassle of changing to a fmic....for re-map only the standard one will suffice.
