What does the Purge valve do? I have an error code od 01247 and 00515 which is bringing up camshaft posistion sensor short to ground - no signal.

Car is idling a bit silly and nearly cuts out at junctions, Will this be causing my high fuel consumption that i have recently been getting issues with. Just wanted to know where to start with the camshaft sensor as the car starts but it always takes 3 attempts always on the 3rd it fires up.

just had a look at the wiring to the camshaft sensor with prtable light and it appears that 2 of the 3 wires are cracked right near the plug connector and look like they are about to snap, the middle wire of the 3 is fine. How can i re-connect these 2 wires as they are so near the plastic moulded plug that connects to the car.

You could try to push the metal contacts out from the plug. Probably a very small jewellers screwdriver will be required to release the retaining barbs and then the contacts should either push or pull out of the holder.

Then resolder the wires to the contacts.

Can't help on the purge valve though. Sounds like something to do with emissions?
