Dealer wiggle room

Featured Replies

Am interested, very interested, in taking advantage of the "No VAT" offer and getting ourselves a new Octy - even SWMBO is keen !

(1.4 Estate, haven't decided between Elegance and SE)

I'd be interested in other people's opinions as to what can get negotiated on the price.

I'm prepared for the dealer to claim that the VAT removal is surely discount enough, but I would counter with that being a Skoda UK offer, so what can the specific dealer do to sweeten the deal.

Surely they themselves will also have a bit of a margin to work from, but will this be more likely in things like extras (metallic etc) or is the car price itself worth chipping away at?

or is the order proving so pop-lee-urr that they can afford not to haggle and have customers queueing out the door to sign on the line?

depends on the dealer, to be honest. The dealership in isleworth would not budge at all on price not even be a few hundred. Else where did so the answer is if one dealer does not go and try another. My aunt and uncle just got a nice £4k (including VAT offer) knocked of their L&K estate they just ordered.

If you've got multiple Skoda dealers close by, then you should just decide a price and stick to it. The best way to haggle I've found is to be prepared to walk away. If you decide on a price you won't go over, and they won't meet it, you can just walk away and see what they do. If they really don't want your business, then they'll let you walk, but if you aren't that keen and are happy to walk out, then maybe they'll give you a better deal. It's then useful to have multiple dealers in your area as if you ARE really keen and the 1st dealer you go to won't budge, then you can go to another dealer and try there. Maybe even get them to undercut an offer the 1st dealer gave you. Haggling can be fun, but a bit stressful if you really want the car. When my girlfriend/now wife was looking for a yellow beetle, we went to look at one and I pretended like we didn't particularly care for the colour, and got a great discount (£1500 off) with a CD changer, mats and tank of petrol thrown in for free. You never know until you try.

Have a look at the price quoted on Drive the Deal and use this as the best price you could hope to get. If a dealer gets close to this price you are doing well.

Chathams over the water at Halbeath were within £200 of the DTD price when I got my latest car, and the service they provide is second to none.

DtD prices

Elegance £13243 saving £3115

SE £12401 saving £2882

These prices are before any options added.

Thing is with Skoda's in demand, and dealers going to the wall at an alarming rate, there isnt much wiggle room these days.

Those with low sale prices will undoubtedly put up servicing and parts costs.
