ECU and Driving Style

Featured Replies

Ok dumb question no. 2 :)

Having come from driving a 16 year old peugeot to my vRS I have a bit of a bone question regarding new fangled things like ECUs. :)

Does the ECU on the car get used to your driving style as Im finding that in 4th my car can be a bit sluggish. Im wondering if its got used to the fluffy run in period driving I have been doing and thus needs to get used to the every so slightly brisker driving its getting now.

Cheers,

Steve

It should adapt over time. Try (With the engine at full temperature) giving it full throttle to the red line a few times if you get the chance - too much gentle driving can allow the moving vanes in the turbo to seize in place with soot, giving correct boost only at one engine speed if you spend all your time at a single speed, especially if it's all cruising...

Hmmm, Im guessing red lining 4th on a vRS will require a nice bit of road or the Motorway ;)

Doesn't need to be in 4th gear, you could just go through the first few gears at full throttle whilst changing up at the redline - that will do the job.

Right ho, job for the way home then! Though knowing my luck I'll get nose to nose slow drivers now :)

redline 4th gear = lost license ( fun though , apparently ) !
